About this item
- STOPS CLOGS BEFORE THEY START: Unlike flat drain covers that let hair slip underneath, TubShroom fits inside your drain to catch human and pet hair before it causes slow drainage or expensive plumbing issues — without blocking water flow.
- FITS STANDARD BATHTUB DRAINS: Works with most bathtub drains (1.4”–1.75” wide). Compatible with removable pop-up, lift-and-turn, and toe-touch stoppers. Not compatible with non-removable built-in stoppers or flat 4” shower stall drains.
- OPTIMIZED WATER FLOW DESIGN: Sits ½”–1” above the drain floor to allow water to flow freely around the sides. Minimal impact on drainage when cleaned regularly. No tools necessary.
- NO MESS. NO TANGLES. NO CHEMICALS: Hair wraps neatly around the in-drain cylinder for quick removal — just lift, wipe, and rinse. No more digging hair out of metal screens or using harsh drain cleaners.
- PROTECTS YOUR PIPES & YOUR WALLET: Helps reduce the need for drain snakes, liquid cleaners, and costly plumber visits. A simple, reusable solution that saves money over time.
- AWARD-WINNING, PATENTED DESIGN: Trusted by millions and recognized with the KBB Product Innovator Award. Over ten million drains protected worldwide with our original mushroom design.

Simple, Effective, and Much Better Than Flat Drain Covers
Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2026I was honestly surprised by how effective this little thing is. I’ve tried flat drain covers before, but hair would always slip underneath and eventually clog the drain anyway. The TubShroom design works much better because it sits inside the drain and wraps the hair around the center instead of letting it pass through.
Installation took less than a minute and it fit my standard bathtub drain without any issues. Water still drains normally, and cleaning it is way easier than digging hair out of a metal screen. You just pull it out, wipe off the hair, rinse it, and put it back in. It also keeps the hair mostly out of sight, which is a nice bonus.
After using it for a while, I’ve noticed far fewer drainage issues and I haven’t had to use drain cleaner at all. If you have long hair, pets, or just want to avoid future plumbing problems, this is a simple and inexpensive solution that actually works.

Works perfectly, even for dog baths; great for menstrual cup users; best when cleaned frequently
Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2025TIME OWNED: 5 days at time of review [Updated below after 4 months, including in doggo baths!]
OVERALL THOUGHTS: I've tried a ton of products to prevent lots of hair going down the tub drain because I shed so much. This one is very easy to install/remove for easy cleaning, without being big and obtrusive, and it catches a lot while hiding all that hair out of sight. I find it's best to clean it frequently and do clean mine almost every day, but it's a simple routine. This is my new favorite hair catching solution and I've stopped looking at others, for now. We'll see how it holds up.

FULL REVIEW: Long story short, I shed a TON of my thin-but-numerous hair in the shower and it's an annoying and expensive problem, so I've been dedicated to trying products and finding a good solution for about 9 months now. Of course I can't tell if anything slips by this shroom but from what I see, it works very well to snag a ton of hair while still draining very well. The photo shows the amount of hair caught after I "pre-shed" my hair with a comb first and then took a shower (and the hair/shroom was left to dry overnight). It's also very easy to install and remove for cleaning, though I am worried about it getting moldy if left in place too long (as so many other products I've tried have done), so I have a routine I do daily to clear it out and hopefully help stave off mold as long as possible. But it's quite easy.
MY CLEANING ROUTINE:
1. Turn on the water and shower/bathe as normal.
2. Before getting out of the tub to dry off, remove the shroom from the drain. Don't clean it yet!! Just leave it in the tub or put it on the edge, etc.
3. Leave it to dry overnight/until your next shower.
4. Before turning on the water for your next shower/bath, empty the DRY hair from the shroom out over the trash can.
5. Put the shroom back in place and you're back to Step 1.
I find the hair (and the gunked up soap/shampoo/etc. that also inevitably gets caught) annoyingly sticks to your hand/the shroom when wet and everything drips when you move to the trash, so I just prefer to clean it when it's had a chance to dry, even if it's just a bit. You could leave the shroom in place to dry if you like! But like I said, I'm hoping pulling it out to dry faster will also help delay some of that moldy build-up as well. We'll see!
MENSTRUAL CUP USERS:
Because it's so easy to remove, I find it's great for when I need to empty my cup. It's just a quick added step! Clean the shroom (Step 4) but DON'T replace it just yet (Step 5). Instead, put it somewhere handy like on the edge of the tub or a shelf in the shower stall. Then turn on the water and get in the shower as normal, emptying your cup first thing. THEN replace the catcher (Step 5) and take your shower. This just makes it a bit easier than trying to fiddle with the shroom after you take your cup out and you have your hands full. ;) (And of course lets you more cleanly empty your cup directly into the drain with no obstructions.)
CONS: None so far, but I'm keeping an eye on these and will be back to update if something goes amiss...
- how durable it is over time (since cleaning it out frequently is best, I'm curious how long the silicone "feet" can handle the friction as it repeatedly rubs on the drain with removing/replacing it daily)
- whether it starts to accumulate any mold (it's something lots of people here have mentioned but has also been my experience with every other product I've tried since, you know, water and gunk, so it's not unexpected... I just hope it's not too quickly)
- how long I can go without cleaning it out (I've gotten used to cleaning these hair catchers out every day, so was doing that with this on autopilot to start. And it just seems best overall with the nature of these things. But I do want to experiment and see how long it could go before draining starts to clog.)
---
Update 4 months later. Still works great and no issues.
- Silicone is still in great shape with no tears or wear
- No mold yet, though it has discolored but is probably not the item's fault (some of it is probably from rinsing hair dye in that shower, and the rest is probably Serratia Marcescens/iron... there's nothing to indicate any other changes that would be an issue)
- With the amount of hair I lose in the shower, I can go about 3 days without clearing it before it affects drainage (I still prefer to clean it out daily but I experimented just to see heh)
- I have a second one in the guest bathtub where the dog gets her monthly baths and it catches tons of her hair as well, which is considerably shorter than mine. Again, not sure if it does actually let anything slip by but it at least catches a good chunk that would otherwise go down the drain so I'm very happy with using it there also!
---
Final update!
So this did finally get moldy after about 7 months, though it might have been from neglect! We suddenly had to go away for 2 months and I forgot to remove it like I usually do after taking my shower right before we left. It was fine when we got back but then developed mold a couple weeks later, so I'm assuming the trip had something to do with it but can't be sure.
Since I had to replace it, I decided to try their stainless steel version. It's been great for 4-ish months! But I do much prefer the overall design of this one, specifically the top. The stainless steel one has "claws" on the top that trap hair and make it very visible, whereas you never see it with this one. The stainless steel one also clogs much quicker! As I mentioned, I can do about 3 days with this one before it starts to drain slowly but the stainless steel one slows down drainage while I'm still in the shower the first day! Granted, I lose a lot of hair in the shower but still.
When I eventually need to replace the stainless steel one, I'll be coming back to this one (and cleaning it out daily), even if that means replacing it every 8 months.

Mostly effective
Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2026It catches a lot of hair, but not everything over time; hair still gathers inside in the drain. Still, it's much better to have it there than not.

Wow! Most amazing thing I never knew I needed!!!
Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2016This is incredibly simple, yet almost mind-blowing. Cleaning out the tub drain was something I despise but was forced to do since my daughter and I both have long hair and both shed about as much as our dog. It was a long disgusting process which included having to take the drain apart and use a small drain snake with a velcro-type end on it. It was always so gross to pull out all the slimy hair and soap scum that had accumulated every few days. I almost dreaded taking showers just because I knew it meant I had to clean out the drain again soon.
Then this little thing popped up during an Lightning Deal. I thought it looked kinda goofy and wondered how it could work as well as marketed. I read through the reviews and thought what did I have to lose - could always return if it didn't work as intended.
I received it quickly and thought it looked even more odd in person than online. But I took off my drain cover and popped it in place. It fit perfectly. It was snug in the drain, yet stood up about 1/2" or so (which did make it resemble a mushroom). Then the family showered as usual.
There was no standing water whatsoever. The drain worked fine. Water flowed right under the "mushroom cap" taking with it all hair that escaped our bodies along with it. The Tubshroom caught all the hair. After 2 days I pulled it out to see if it worked! DID IT EVER!! (The photos I took were after 2 days of showers.) It has been invaluable when it comes to washing the dog! No more clogged drains & standing water because the dog shed more than enough hair to build another dog!
All I have to do is wipe/pull off the hair with a piece of paper towel and throw it in the trash. Couldn't believe it could be so simple!! No more disassembling the drain, donning rubber gloves, running a snake down the drain, and pulling out globs of hair and gunk to clean the drain and get it flowing properly.
I have had no issues with it causing standing water in the tub. When I notice it begins draining slowly, that is my hint to clean it off. For those people who had their tubs fill up, I would guess it did not fit properly, or there may have been other drain issues, or they shoved it all the way into the drain & did not leave anything standing up. This is not a traditional drain cover. It has to stand up off the drain (like a mushroom) in order to work properly.
I have had it for some time now and still have no complaints. This thing is amazing. It has been such a time saver and made cleaning the tub a breeze! Wish I could give it 10 stars!!

Works well and fit our drain.
Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2026This TubShroom bathtub drain hair catcher is great. I actually used it in my utility sink in my laundry room. Our washer has a hose hooked up to drain into the sink. Sometimes we wash our hair in there. Little green Gadget caught everything, the lint from washing clothes and the hair. It was so easy to use. You just pop it in and pull it out when you need to clean it.

Water puddles in drain area
Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2026When I used this product in my shower drain there was a lot of standing water and I was concerned about it eventually overflowing. I placed it into my bathroom sink drain hole and water puddled up, but I felt that it wouldn't be as much of a concern since not as much water is ran continuously in the sink and it drained at an okay pace. My sink drain plug has been gone for quite some time, so it is nice to have this to fill the hole so things don't get dropped down the drain.

the BEST drain cover for hair
Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2026Literally the BEST hair catcher in existence. I had long hair, like looooong hair. And of course my drains would stop up every week. I tried multiple drain covers. But removing my drain cover and putting this thing in literally saved my drains. No more draino, no more fishing out mounds of hair. Just this thing cleaned out every other shower and boom. BTW, it’s easy as hell to clean. A little gross. But worth it. Looks normal in the tub. Fit perfectly in my drain hole. Literally just removed the original drain cover and putting this thing in the gap. Easy to install. The silicone is the reason it’s so easy to clean and stays white. Cannot recommend enough.
When I cut off all my hair, I thought this drain would be overkill but no- it’s like it caught every strand. Even shorter hair gets stopped by this thing. Short like boy short, I shaved that crap off I was so done with having 2 feet of hair.

Anna Lucia Forghieri5 out of 5 starscomodissimo!!!!!!!

Reviewed in Canada on May 6, 2026I have long crazy curly hair and the tub shroom is the only hair catcher that has actually protected my drain. I buy these religiously. Fantastic product, no more clogs and catches everything easily. Easy to clean as well!
