Vice Chairman, MGM Group of Companies and Magnum Global Group
MGM Maran

Nesamani Maran Muthu, widely known in the business world as MGM Maran or simply Maran Muthu, is one of India's most prominent second-generation business leaders and a globally recognised high-net-worth industrialist. He is the Vice Chairman of the MGM Group of Companies and of the Magnum Global Group, the diversified multinational conglomerate headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, that was founded in 1963 by his late father, the legendary Chevalier Dr. Manuel Gnana Muthu.
He is also the Director and Promoter of MGM Muthu Hotels and Resorts, the group's international hospitality arm, which has grown under his stewardship into one of the most expansive Indian-owned hotel chains in the world, managing over fifty properties with more than eight thousand rooms across India, the United Kingdom, Scotland, Portugal, Spain, France, Cuba, Kenya, and Jamaica.
Born in Chennai in 1967, Nesamani Maran Muthu represents the second generation of a business dynasty whose origins are one of the most celebrated rags-to-riches stories in Indian entrepreneurial history. His father, Dr. M.G. Muthu, was born in poverty in Tirunelveli district, worked as a coolie loading cargo at the Madras Port from 1957, saved his earnings with extraordinary discipline, and founded the MGM Group in 1963 with nothing more than his principles of truth, hard work, simplicity, and honesty.
That modest logistics enterprise grew over the following six decades into a Rs. 2,500 crore conglomerate spanning logistics, distilleries, hospitality, amusement parks, agriculture, entertainment, and international trade. Maran Muthu, alongside his brother MGM Anand who serves as Group Managing Director, has carried this legacy into a new era of global scale and digital innovation.
A graduate of Loyola College under Madras University, Maran Muthu joined the family business and has since led its most ambitious international expansion chapter, overseeing the transformation of MGM Muthu Hotels from an India-based hospitality operation into a multinational brand with a presence on four continents.
His leadership philosophy, which he describes as nuanced automation, places technology as an enabler of human service rather than its replacement, and has been articulated in widely published commentary in March 2026 across The Tribune India, The Wire, NewsX, The Daily Guardian, The Blunt Times, Sangri Buzz, Loktej, and DevDiscourse. He is a director registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs with Director Identification Number 01565367 and holds directorships in twelve Indian companies across the MGM Group's diversified portfolio.
