School Building Improvement
Bond Program
Since 2012, PPS has completed over 1100 health, safety and modernization projects that have improved every school in the district. This work on our aging school buildings has improved water quality, and provided security upgrades, new roofs, asbestos and radon remediation, lead paint stabilization, new fire alarms and sprinklers, more accessibility and seismic retrofits.
Nine schools: Benson, Franklin, Grant, McDaniel, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Kellogg MS, Faubion PK-8 and the new Multiple Pathways to Graduation program building have been modernized or rebuilt. Work is underway on three more modernized schools: Jefferson, Cleveland and Ida B. Wells.

Citizen-led Bond Accountability Committee & Audit Reports

The Portland Public Schools Bond Program has been awarded a $1.5M grant supporting seismic work and anticipates receiving a $12M matching grant for other Bond-funded work, bolstering the district’s voter-approved bond funding.

Last Friday, Portland Public Schools broke ground on the future Cleveland High School. Students, staff, alumni, families, elected leaders, community members, and project partners gathered to celebrate a milestone years in the making.

Friday’s modernization groundbreaking ceremony was a landmark moment in the Jefferson High School community. Students, staff, PPS Board, community members and leaders joined in a powerful celebration of Jeff’s legacy and a deserved investment in north/northeast Portland.
