Tc Wow!! This album broadsided me! Don’t miss it.
It blew me away and it’s probably my album of the year.
I’ve never been keen on that death metal screeching vocals but it kind of works here and it isn’t too prominent and a flute sound is not too far away.
It is truly a journey to be experienced particularly with headphones. Favorite track: The Between.

Eekhoorntjesbrood The Dawnwalker collective at its best. Sprawling and profound. An emotional journey through depths and peaks in thirty minutes.

Alice M. “The Unknowing” was an interesting release that stands the test of time pretty well, but its tracks can feel a bit short sometimes. So: a 32-minute composition?! Take my money.

… Oh my god, the available excerpt seems to indicate the return of some harsh vocals. Let’s gooo~

about

This October 24th, Dawnwalker will release a new 32-minute composition titled "The Between" - a long-form suite of experimental metal that runs the gamut of their whole discography. Described by the band as “a guided meditation through death and dying” - it takes liberal doses of ancient Eastern philosophies on life and death and pairs them with a modern existential despair. It is intended to be cathartic, and even joyful, but will traverse the darker reaches of the psyche in order to get there.

"Now has come the time for you to seek a path."

Featuring an expanded 12-piece lineup, The Between deftly weaves together post-metal, doom and new age influences to create a haunting voyage through the netherworld. It was recorded at London’s analogue-minded Holy Mountain with Stanley Gravett and mixed by Ashenspire’s Scott McLean for a rich, naturalistic sound. It also features contributions from Oli Genn-Bash (Codex Serafini) on saxophone, virtuosic guitar solos from Alexander Brown (Infected Dead), sound design by new recruit Jack D’Arcy and notably, the return of Dane Cross (Sacred Son) on vocals. Though the band has always been an evolving project, it may represent Dawnwalker’s most ambitious work yet.

The idea of an album-length song is not a new one for Dawnwalker, but something that took years to gestate. “I’d always wanted to write a song that could function as a whole album,” says band leader Mark Norgate. “It took many attempts because I wanted it to be truly through-composed - starting at the beginning and writing it through to the end. This approach also matches the album conceptually, by giving each phase the time it needs to evolve naturally into the next.” A narrator implores us to “listen without distraction,” and by doing so we may be carried away as each movement unfolds at its own undulating pace.
