Have you ever heard someone say, “I attract the same type of guy,” or “This kind of drama always finds me?” At first glance, it might sound like an excuse for making the same choices. But what if there’s something deeper going on?

    Let’s break it down.

    The Law of Attraction

Yes, people can attract the same types of situations, especially when viewed through the lens of the Law of Attraction. This philosophy suggests that positive thoughts bring positive results, while negative thoughts bring negative outcomes [1].

    So, ask yourself:

    “What are you attracting?”

    The Death Instinct: Freud’s Theory

Sigmund Freud introduced the Death Instinct (also called Thanatos) to explain humanity’s unconscious drive toward self-destruction and aggression [2]. This theory helps us understand why people may:

    • Repeatedly relive painful events
    • Sabotage healthy relationships
    • Seek out destructive patterns

Freud believed that Thanatos operates in contrast to Eros, the life instinct. Where Eros fuels connection and creativity, Thanatos drives us toward destruction or returning to an inorganic, tension-free state, what he called the Nirvana Principle.

    Examples include:

    • Traumatized children reenacting traumatic events through play
    • War veterans reliving traumatic memories
    • Everyday individuals repeating the same toxic relationship patterns (repetition compulsion)

Freud theorized that aggression is the outward expression of the death instinct, it destroys connection and stability.

    Modern Interpretations

Psychoanalyst Melanie Klein expanded on Freud’s idea by exploring how the death instinct can lead people to destabilize their own egos or sabotage close relationships [2]. According to Klein, this drive may show up as:

    • Chronic negativity
    • Repeating toxic relational patterns
    • Choosing familiarity, even when it’s harmful

For example, someone who had a distant or unavailable caregiver may unconsciously choose partners with similar traits [3].

This phenomenon is known as repetition compulsion, a psychological drive to recreate unresolved trauma in hopes of resolving it [3].

    Repetition Compulsion and Trauma

Repetition compulsion is an unconscious urge to recreate early traumas in current situations. It often presents as:

    • Reentering abusive relationships
    • Repeating self-sabotaging behaviors
    • Seeking situations that reflect past pain

Trauma survivors, especially those with sexual trauma, may show signs of this cycle. They can experience lasting effects like anxiety, depression, guilt, social withdrawal, and anger [4].

Some survivors may develop hypersexual behaviors, often driven by a desire to reclaim a sense of control and power. In some cases, if the behavior is consensual and empowering, it may aid in the healing process [4].

However, others may use hypersexuality as a form of avoidance, which can worsen feelings of shame, disconnection, or dissociation.

    Where Trauma Lives

Trauma doesn’t just affect the mind; it can be stored in the body. Survivors may hold musculoskeletal tension in the exact location of the trauma or in broader areas like the neck, spine, or torso [4].

    How Therapy Helps

Therapy can help individuals recognize and confront their death instincts, understand their self-destructive patterns, and gain insight into how the past influences thepresent [1]. Through this process, healing becomes possible.

Shifting the Cycle with the Law of Attraction

To break these cycles, you can use the Law of Attraction to cultivate a mindset rooted in hope and healing:

    • Be grateful
    • 🧠 Visualize your goals
    • 🌤️ Look for the positive
    • Identify negative thought patterns
    • 💬 Practice positive affirmations
    • 🔄 Reframe negative events (Yes, it’s hard, but it’s possible!)

Do you have a quote you live your life by or think of often?

Recently this quote has been a key role in me pursuing my goals and dreams. But when I speak about “others” I am talking about me, because sometimes, I get in my way. I judge myself on not getting there faster or not doing enough. I judge myself when I do too much and it was unsuccessful (In my eyes…).

Lately, I have to tell myself that it is okay, and we will win. It’s not how fast we get there, sometimes it’s about what we learn on our way.

    Love, Peace, and Hot Grease!!

Describe a risk you took that you do not regret.

One risk that I took would be when I joined the military. At the time (during basic training) I did regret the decision. However, once it was all said and done, I am glade that I did make that decision. I would not have overcome the complacency of getting out of my comfort zone, had I not done that. I would not have met so many other amazing Americans (whom are like family at this point). And, I would not have had my daughter.

As counselors, we often encourage our clients to “be present”—to stay grounded in the here and now. But what does that really mean?

Does it mean noticing how the sun reflects off the leaves in the morning light? Does it mean pausing to hear the sweet, rhythmic songs of the birds? For many, being present is about connecting to the world through the senses—finding calm in the simple, quiet details of life.

For me, one of the ways I stay present is through angel numbers.

Angel numbers are repeating number patterns—like 1111, 444, and 334—that seem to pop up just when I need a reminder to breathe, realign, or reflect. They’re more than coincidence. They’re gentle nudges from the universe—reminders that I’m supported, that my thoughts carry power, and that I’m on the right path.

1111 shows up when my thoughts and energy are aligned with manifestation. It’s a cue to pause and focus on what I truly desire.

🕊️ 444 is a powerful symbol of protection and support—reminding me that I’m not walking alone.

🌿 334 comes through when I need reassurance that my personal growth is being guided. It encourages me to keep going, even when things feel uncertain.

When I see one of these numbers, I take it as a sign to slow down. To breathe. To be still for a moment. It becomes a mindfulness tool—anchoring me to the present instead of drifting into stress or distraction.

Being present doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as noticing the signs around you—signs that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.

So next time you see a repeating number, try pausing and asking yourself:
What am I thinking right now? What do I need in this moment?
You might find the universe is already answering.

6 years ago, I was in one of the darkest seasons of my life.

I was silently struggling with postpartum depression, PTSD, anxiety, and a deep sadness that I didn’t fully understand. It felt like I was moving through mud—physically, emotionally, mentally. The simplest things, like getting dressed or stepping outside, felt overwhelming. I didn’t want to be seen. I didn’t want to talk. I just wanted to hide.

I knew something wasn’t right, but admitting it felt like accepting defeat. It wasn’t until family members and people closest to me began gently pointing it out that I really started to face it. (When I gently, I am being modest). And still, it was hard.

I remember the day it hit me hardest. I was sitting in silence, and all I could feel was failure. I felt like a horrible mother, like I wasn’t enough for my child or myself. I didn’t want to feel that way anymore—but I didn’t know how to change it. I just knew I needed help.

That moment—though painful—was the beginning of a shift. It didn’t happen overnight. Healing is not a straight line. But that version of me, the one who showed up even when it hurt, is the reason I’m here today, able to share this.

    Image

Today, I can honestly say—I’m better.

I’m not perfect, and life still has its ups and downs, but I’ve grown into a version of myself that I’m proud of. I’ve found healing, strength, and a deeper understanding of who I am. And if younger me had the chance to meet the woman I’ve become, I truly believe she would feel something she hadn’t felt in a long time: safe.

    She would trust me.

    Image

She would see someone who’s still standing, still showing up, and still loving—despite everything. She would admire how I’ve learned to speak up for myself, how I’ve learned to rest when I need to, and how I’ve turned my pain into purpose.

Six years ago, if she had met me then, I don’t think she would have felt that same sense of safety. I was hurting, lost in survival mode, barely making it through the day. But today, I know how to offer her the compassion she deserved all along.

If I could speak to her now, I’d tell her,
“Hold on. There’s a version of you coming who will make you proud. She will carry everything you’ve been through and turn it into power.”

And that’s who I am today.
Still healing. Still growing. But finally, free.

    Image

    Your Turn:
If you had the chance to go back five years, what would you say to yourself?
And what would your younger self admire about who you are today?

Take a moment to reflect. Write it down. Speak it out loud. Share it with someone.
Your story, your growth, your healing—it matters.

Drop a comment below or message me if you feel led to share your journey. You never know who your truth might inspire. 💬❤️

    Let’s keep encouraging change—together.

For too long, I let other people’s words shape the way I saw myself.
    “You’re not good enough.”
“No one really wants to love you.”
    “You’re too much.”

Even when they didn’t say it outright, their actions whispered it. And I believed it. I let those voices echo in my mind until I created whole stories that weren’t true—stories where I was unlovable, unwanted, and undeserving.

    Because of that, I settled.
I allowed myself to stay in situations where I was undervalued, overlooked, and misunderstood.
I confused pain for passion. I confused chaos for connection.

    But here’s the truth:
Just because they said it, doesn’t mean it’s real.
And just because you believed it then, doesn’t mean you have to keep carrying it now.

    💫 You are worthy.
    💫 You are lovable.
💫 You are enough—without having to prove it, chase it, or shrink for it.

Today, I choose to silence the noise.
    I choose my voice.
    I choose healing.

Life is a journey filled with twists and turns, highs and lows. At times, we find ourselves faced with decisions that feel impossible to make. Other times, the uncertainty of what lies ahead can feel overwhelming. But through all of life’s unpredictability, there are moments—small yet powerful—that bring us joy and remind us of the beauty in everyday life.

It could be a warm cup of coffee on a chilly morning, a heartfelt conversation with a friend, or the laughter of a child. These simple pleasures act as anchors, grounding us during life’s storms. When challenges arise, it’s easy to feel lost in the chaos, but finding gratitude in the little things can make all the difference.

Beyond that, we don’t have to navigate life’s uncertainties alone. Leaning on those we trust—family, friends, mentors—provides us with strength, perspective, and comfort. Seeking support doesn’t mean we are weak; rather, it is a testament to our resilience and willingness to grow.

So, as we face life’s unpredictable nature, let’s remember to embrace the small joys and lean on the people who uplift us. Even in the toughest moments, we can find light, love, and hope.

Have you ever found joy in the midst of a storm? I’d love to hear your experiences in the comments below!

  • Life is a journey filled with ups and downs, victories and setbacks, moments of joy and times of hardship. Often, we find ourselves questioning why we must endure difficulties, wondering if we’re strong enough to push through. But the truth is, the struggles along the way are not meant to break us—they are meant to shape us.

    Image

    Growth Through Adversity

Struggles are an inevitable part of life, but they are also powerful teachers. Every challenge we face presents an opportunity to grow, to learn, and to discover inner strengths we never knew we had. Just like pressure turns coal into diamonds, our hardships refine us, making us stronger and more resilient.

Think about the most inspiring figures in history—many of them faced unimaginable obstacles. Yet, they persevered, and their struggles became stepping stones to success. The same principle applies to our personal lives. When we embrace challenges as opportunities for growth rather than as roadblocks, we begin to see them as essential parts of our transformation.

    Shaping Your Character

Difficulties have a way of shaping our character. They teach us patience, resilience, and perseverance. They help us develop empathy and wisdom, allowing us to connect with others who may be facing similar struggles. When we look back at the hardships we’ve overcome, we often realize that those very moments played a significant role in molding us into who we are today.

Rather than fearing struggles, we can choose to see them as moments that prepare us for something greater. Every obstacle strengthens our foundation, giving us the wisdom and endurance needed to step into our purpose with confidence.

    Embracing the Journey

The key to navigating life’s struggles is to shift our perspective. Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” we can ask, “What is this teaching me?” By reframing challenges as opportunities for growth, we take control of our journey and empower ourselves to move forward with courage and determination.

No matter what you’re going through, remember that you are being shaped into the best version of yourself. Every hardship is part of the process, refining you and preparing you for what’s to come. Keep pushing forward, because the struggles along the way are molding you into something truly extraordinary.

Encouraging Change is here to support and inspire you along your journey. Stay connected for more insights on personal growth, mindset shifts, and overcoming life’s challenges.
