James Brown’s ‘The Funky Drummer’ is a classic

James Brown’s ‘The Funky Drummer’ is amazing.  Its a groovy little tune that’ll get you doing the head bob in no time.  The best part of this song comes at 5:32, that’s when the magic starts.  This little block of gold is a perfect tune to start playing my favorite game.

“Where’d that sample come from?”

I got into James Brown, and other related funk and soul jazz artists because of rap and hip-hop.  I’m fuzzy on the origins of the game, but I wouldn’t be suprised if James Brown was the first.  I remember James finding a JB tape on the side of the road.  It was so beat up, but still played like a champ. I played the funk out of that tape.

I also remember finding James Brown’s Funky People Pt.2 at Media Play in the cheap cassette tape rack. It was $2.00 so I figured it’d be a safe bet.  That tape was probably my all time favorite finds in the cheap racks.  You will find a handful of samples on this one as well. Most notably the ‘it takes two’ quote from this song.

Here’s the MP3 for your collection, the funky drummer is a must listen.

I played and scored at the Pepsi Center on Sunday

My ice hockey team the Money Shots played after Sunday’s Avalance game vs. the Calgary Flames.  It was a great night.  The Avs beat the Flames.  Smyth and Heijduk both scored their 300th career goal.  Later that night, I scored my first goal on the very same ice.  I’ve played and scored on pro ice before, but never in Colorado.  Sunday night was as good as it could have been, and I’ll never forget it.

This is the goal I scored in the third period.  If you look closely, you’ll see the puck falling to the ice behind the goalie.  I wasn’t expecting this to go in.  My plan was to bounce the puck off the goalie with hopes of the rebound going in front of him in the slot.  I saw Jerry breaking in and figured he’d get the rebound, and I’d curl behind the net to the other post.  Instead, I ended up roofing the puck over the goalie’s shoulder.  Works for me!

A volume failed to mount (Error code -6602)

Yesterday morning I started work as usual as ran into a problem mounting one of the shares from my XP PRO machine on my Macbook Pro.  Obviously the first question I asked was WTF? Everything worked yesterday, and not today.

I did some Googling and found mention about opening some UDP ports, but my TCP/IP settings currently has all ports open, so that didn’t help.  Then just for giggles I decided to turn off simple file sharing.  That fixed it!

So if you receive the message “A volume failed to mount”, and then another one with “Error code -6602” in it, you should check your PC’s file sharing settings.  You would do this by following these steps.

How to disable simple file sharing on XP

  1. Open Windows Explorer ( Win+E  or  double click My Computer )
  2. Click Tools > Folder Options
  3. Click the View Tab
  4. Scroll down to the bottom, and uncheck “Use simple file sharing (Recommended)”
  5. Then retry mounting the share on OSX
