Alumnae

CSG Team 677 welcomes its alumnae to continue their connection with the FIRST Robotics Program following graduation. In January of 2013, Team 677 emailed a survey link to 76 alumnae to better understand the impact of the FIRST Robotics program. The respondents included alumnae who had graduated in the team’s inaugural year, 2001.

Seventy-six percent of Team 677 alumnae survey respondents received or anticipate receiving a STEM undergraduate college degree. Furthermore, over 90% of Team 677 alumnae indicated that their participation in FIRST Robotics was either very or extremely meaningful. Team 677 alumnae felt a deep connection to the team, and 67% of alumnae indicated that their experience on the team was very or extremely influential on their college and career choices. As far as college scholarships, 80% of Team 677 alumnae received a scholarship and 14% of alumnae received FIRST scholarships.

In addition, for the past several years Team 677 has annually recognized one team alumna for her participation in FIRST with the Team 677 Distinguished Alumna Award. Past recipients have been Mikell Taylor (2011), Hallee Deutchman (2012), Felicitee Kertis (2013, pictured with 2013 team captains), and Kate Franks (2015).

At the most recent annual banquet, the Columbus School for Girls FIRST Robotics team recognized M.J. Yatsko with the 2015 Team 677 Distinguished Alumna Award. This award is given to a Team 677 alumna who has demonstrated significant achievements since being on the CSG FIRST Robotics Team, which M.J. had done since her graduation in 2010. After being a four-year team member and co-Captain of the team, M.J. is now a second-year graduate student in Mechanical Engineering at The Ohio State University and is the Co-Team leader of the OSU EcoCAR team. During her time at CSG, M.J. went above and beyond outside of Robotics season by participation for many years in the CSG-OSU Summer Research Internship Program, where she worked at OSU’s Center for Automotive Research, which is where she first started working on the EcoCAR project. She is currently still working on the EcoCAR project at OSU.
