About Axé

Axé is a genre of pop that blends Afro-Caribbean sounds like samba-reggae, calypso, and merengue with Brazilian rhythms such as forró, frevo and afoxé.

Emerging in Bahia, Brazil in the mid-1980 (although its roots can be traced all the way to the 1950s), Axé music is associated with carnivals and characterized by upbeat tempos and a vibrant atmosphere. Instruments such as guitar, electric bass, keyboard and percussion are frequently used.
