About Bossa Nova
Bossa Nova is a music style originating in Brazil during the 1950s, evolving into MPB (Música Popular Brasileira / Brazilian Popular Music) by the late 1960s. It translates to something along the lines of “new flair” in English. It takes direct inspiration from Jazz and Samba, and adds its own Brazilian twist.
Bossa Nova gave Brazilian music international prominence, notably with the Grammy Award-winning 1965 album “Getz/Gilberto” by Stan Getz and João Gilberto, and the English rendition of “Garota de Ipanema/Girl From Ipanema” by Frank Sinatra.
