La champeta es un género musical proveniente de la región caribeña de Colombia, siendo una parte del legado africano que ha evolucionado en dicha región y originada en San Basilio de Palenque. Este género se destaca gracias a tener un nombre similar a una herramienta que utilizan pescaderos y trabajadores del campo, pero también pandilleros que se enfrentan en peleas barriales. Justamente, la champeta habla de esto, del barrio, la calle y la lucha por sobrevivir, pero también de amores, traiciones y ganas de gozar la vida.

Se destacan sonidos de tambores africanos y la lengua palenquera, proviniendo de combinaciones entre el mbaqanga y el calypso. Se caracteriza por ser un género animado y el uso de sintetizadores.
