About Dark Plugg
Dark Plugg, also known as Evil Plugg, is a subgenre of trap music that is distinguished by its darker production, jumpy hi-hats, and often rapid percussion and snares.
Emerging in the late 2010s, the genre gets its stylistic origins from traditional Plugg music, along with heavy influence from the Gangsta Rap and DMV Rap scenes' traits in its presentation, aggressive lyrics, and delivery.
Originally pioneered by rappers Slimesito and Fluhkunxhkos, producers 13thall and SenseiATL, and production group Surreal Gang among others, the production style of the genre took a different turn starting in the 2020s, with loud, distorted 808s along with noisier, cluttered production and the use of sidechaining taking front at the hands of producers tdf and perc40.
