About Zouk

Zouk is a genre that originated in the French Antilles. It features an energetic tempo, strong percussion rhythms, and a prominent horn section. Pioneered by the band Kassav' in the 1980s, zouk has since evolved to include MIDI instrumentation, blending elements from Caribbean, African, and North American music.

Primarily associated with the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Dominica, and Haiti, zouk is known for its danceable beats and the use of French Antillean Creole lyrics. It also incorporates electronically synthesized sounds and advanced recording techniques. This unique fusion of styles has established zouk as a distinctive and influential genre in the Caribbean music scene.
