I'm Jana and I'm interested in a lot of different technology. Since basically forever I've been enthralled by the idea of technology being a tool for good, augmenting the human experience and helping us achieve more.

Current special interests

Self-hosting
- I prefer to run the services I rely on daily myself
- Cloud infra is fine, but I need to be in control of everything from the os up
FreeBSD
- Exploring it as a general purpose server os
- Currently migrating a lot of my services into jails
- Future use of bhyve for remaining vms
OpenBSD
- My networking bae
- pf just too good
IPv6
- You aren’t actually running IPv6, until you disable IPv4
- Dual Stack is a crutch
General computer networking
- Experimenting with BGP
- Running my own AS

Past special interests

Kubernetes
- It's a control plane! It's not just a fancy docker-compose!
- CNIs are what docker wished it's network stack would be
- Mostly a solved problem for me, so I lost a lot of interest in it
- What I do for work
GitOps
- At one point I was so into GitOps, that I wanted everything to be version controlled in Git
- I still like the idea, but I realized that it takes out a lot of the speed and fun of working on my own stuff
- Now I feel like I use it more where it actually makes sense
Immutability
- In the same vein, I was in love with the idea of immutable os'es
- Turns out they didn't work well with the way I want to use a system, a.k.a. just ssh into it and do something

General things I enjoy

Games
- Currently playing:
  - Cyberpunk 2077 (PC)
  - Persona 3 Reload (Steam Deck)
  - Need for Speed: Most Wanted (Steam Deck)
  - Mario Kart 8 (Steam Deck)
  - Animal Crossing New Leaf (3DS)
  - Many more, though those are more on hold
- I like social VR, especially VRChat, to more closely connect with friends that live far away
Efficiency
- I don't like bloat

I have a dog that is snoring loudly next to me, as I am writing this.
