영국 영어에서는 과거에 /ɹaʊt/ 발음이 /ɹuːt/ 발음과 함께 존재했지만, 19세기에 이르러서는 비표준 발음으로 간주되어 현재는 사라졌다.
어원 1
[편집]라틴어 rupta [via](문자 그대로 "힘으로 만든 길")에서 고대 프랑스어 route로, 그리고 고대 프랑스어에서 중세 영어 route로 파생되었다. 현대 프랑스어 route와 비교해 보시오. routine을 참조하시오. 또한 라틴어 ruptus는 bankrupt(파산)와 관련이 있다.
