Finally got my hands on the 2026 Chogokin Samus Aran from Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. This is an officially Nintendo-licensed product produced by Tamashii Nations / Bandai Spirits.

And man… this figure is amazing.

As soon as you hold it, the weight immediately lets you know that this is a premium figure. Chogokin is Bandai’s long-running figure line that goes all the way back to Chogokin Mazinger Z in 1974. The staple of this line of figures is that they use die-cast metal to give them a heavy, premium, almost “real machine” feel. Samus uses die-cast metal in parts of the armor and frame, with ABS and PVC making up the rest of the sculpt.

At 8.3 inches tall, this Chogokin Samus figure is only a little more than 2 inches taller than a Figma Samus figure but it is enough to make a significant difference.

The articulation on this figure is also great, Samus has enough movement to recreate all the classic Samus poses. And because this is a big 8.3-inch figure with metal in the frame, the posing feels substantial. It doesn’t feel like you’re toying with a fragile model kit.

For accessories you get six interchangeable left hands, an arm cannon missile-mode part, and a dedicated pedestal/display stand that you can use to support poses.

You’re able to install two LR41 batteries in the back/chest area, and Samus’ chest plate and helmet/visor light up, allowing you to see Samus’ face through the visor. There’s also a hidden battery slot (and on/off switch) in the arm cannon, where you can install two more LR41 batteries. Once those are in, the end of the arm cannon lights up as well. The total battery requirement is LR41 x 4, sold separately.

The only downside to this figure would have to be the lack of a replaceable head or removeable helmet, which would’ve been killer. The face model that is used for Samus Aran in Metroid Prime 4 is wonderfully done in-game and it would have been awesome to have it as part of this premium figure.

To conclude, I love this figure, and Samus has finally got the premium treatment she deserves. It has the size, the die-cast feel, articulation, LEDs, accessories, and that official Nintendo/Tamashii Nations polish. This is easily the most premium, poseable, Samus figure ever created.

When Nintendo dropped all the new Metroid merch in the Americas, one exclusive addition was the Metroid Duffel Bag, which was immediately purchased by yours truly. The bag is a sight to behold and is so shiny that I hesitate to actually travel with it, I really don’t want it to get worn and damaged. I guess that’s life…

This product is the duffel bag all Metroid fans deserve, and is leaps and bounds better than the ugly tartrazine, cheap af one that was found in the “Metroid Collector’s Box” that was distributed in GameStops around the country years ago. Highly recommended and definitely worth the price tag.

You can purchase the Metroid Duffel Bag at the official Nintendo store here.

In case you don’t live on social media, in Fanservice: The Movie, aka The Super Mario Galaxy Movie by Nintendo & Illumination, there are two, whopping, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it “cameos” of Samus’s gunship seen in the background in 2 different scenes.

You can watch the cameos below or go see the movie for yourself:

This isn’t the first time Metroid has ever been given a nod in a major motion picture – footage of M1 was shown in The Wizard, and the game has been mentioned in the films Jarhead, and Spy Kids 3D. Check out our playlist here.

Despite the movie being hated by most critics due to its incredibly razor-thin, downright toddler-intelligence storyline, it was a cute romp through Nintendo fanservice heaven and has unsurprisingly already made a bajillion dollars. I would recommend if you 1. Grew up as a Nintendo kid, 2. Want to turn your brain off for a while, and 3. Don’t feel like being pandered to sometimes is a bad thing.

Got my official US Nintendo Store, Metroid merch! I had been eyeing the Metroid™ Tech Accessory Case ever since it was available in Japan. I must say, it is MUCH bigger than I thought. You can fit a whole Switch 2 inside! Also got myself the Metroid™ Silicone Tray and the Metroid™: Metroid 3D Keychain. The first round of US merch sold out fast so keep an eye out for restocks.

Sometimes you just gotta treat yo self! 😆 -Rue

There’s a new Lego Samus on the block!

Samus was created by Lego modeler Eth3r and needs your support! As of this writing there’s just barely under 800 supporters, but who knows what will happen? As we reported a few years back on another fanmade Metroid Lego playset that reached 10,000 supporters, despite that it may seem like a lot of support, it doesn’t necessarily mean Nintendo will be on board.

In any case, go here and support this build. (Note – you do need a Lego Account to add your support!)

Most of the Metroid community at large agree that Prime 4, in some aspects, is an imperfect addition to the series. Community member Alta Count has created a survey regarding what is perceived to be the biggest hangups folks had with the game.

If you had some qualms with the game want to express your opinion on the matter, I recommend you fill out the survey below. Note there is no collecting of emails or other personal information to take this survey. It is 100% anonymous.

This past week I’ve been working on adding the bonus material exclusive to Metroid Prime Remastered to our Metroid Prime Section.

There are images from “Biology – Remastered” and “World – Remastered” containing all new the concept art from Remastered.

Additionally, the Character Gallery contains videos of a nice turntable of all the 3D models of characters and enemies from the game. Like this:

There are 36 videos in all. These were created using the Switch’s record feature as well as edits using my mobile phone. Note that the gallery isn’t comprehensive. There are quite a few “missing” enemies, such as Triclops, Magmoor, Puffers, Crystallite, Ice Beetle, Burrower, Reapers, Aqua Sac, Blastcap, Bloodflower, and a few others. This is a bit disappointing as there are stationary (i.e. boring) enemy types that did make it in like the 2 Turrets, and the Hive Mecha.

In any case, enjoy!
