Adventures on the vast steppe in search of Hungarian origins. This podcast and its accompanying projects are sort of an ethnography of ethnographies, covering magic, war, language, spies, and the stars. Together, we'll peer into the lives and ideas of the Hungarians and others who have gone to unfathomable lengths finding Hungarian and "Turanian" kinship.Dating all the way back to the first written records of Hungarian history, the question of origins and an attempt to understand the "East" has remained an important part of this fascinating country's art and society for hundreds of years. Accelerated after WWI, this morphed into an extremely colorful, though often reactionary and conspiratorial, field of pseudoscience.It's much more than linguistic debates — as we learn about this topic, which connects to so many other cultures' histories and spheres of life, we will take a critical but sometimes sympathetic glance into the inquisitive and dynamic people who animate the history of Hungarian Turanism.Trying not to be too uptight about pronunciation lol.
