PEN PALS
QYA is connecting queer and trans youth through our Pen Pals Project! Matched based on location, age, interests, and other requests, this is a great opportunity to befriend and connect with others in your community.
Your safety is our priority! Introduced via email, we do not share physical addresses. Please contact us at penpals@queeryouthassemble.org if you have any questions!
BIRTHDAY CARDS
Request a free, affirming birthday card made by Queer Youth Assemble volunteers! Cards are fully customizable from colors to messages to drawings.
Our Pen Pals and Birthday Cards programs are open to all youth under 25 across the United States. Whether you’re looking to connect with someone who understands your journey or simply want to celebrate your special day, these programs are here to bring a little extra joy into your life. No matter who you are or where you’re from, we believe everyone deserves a friend and a celebration.
You can sign up through our website by filling out a simple form. Click the corresponding image to let us know you’re interested!
Once you sign up, we’ll match you with a pen pal based on your interests and preferences. You’ll exchange letters, emails, or messages regularly, building a supportive and meaningful friendship over time.
You’ll receive a personalized birthday card in the mail during your birthday month, featuring your preferred name to celebrate you just as you are. We understand the importance of being recognized by the name that reflects your true identity, and we’re committed to making sure your card feels special and affirming.
If privacy is a concern, we can send your card discreetly, with no identifying logos or messages on the envelope. Additionally, you don’t need to provide a physical address to sign up—we can arrange for your card to be sent to a trusted location, such as a friend’s or relative’s address, or even your email inbox.
Our goal is to ensure you feel celebrated and appreciated in a way that’s comfortable and meaningful for you.
No, both programs are completely free. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate, regardless of their financial situation.
We match pen pals based on shared interests, age, and any preferences you indicate on your sign-up form. We strive to create connections that are meaningful and supportive.
Your comfort and safety are our top priorities. If you don’t feel comfortable with your match, please reach out to us, and we’ll work to find a better match for you.
Absolutely! You’re welcome to participate in both the Pen Pals and Birthday Cards programs.
Currently, the programs are only available to those within the United States. We hope to expand internationally in the future!
