Oh yeah. That’s definitely juuuust the autism. Nothing else going on here. I’m not plotting to take over the world or anything. No, these are merely quirky behaviors, as you’ve keenly observed. Yes. Astute. This is my normal quirky self while I’m occupied with this conversation and absolutely no other thoughts whatsoever. Indeed. You understand.

We can’t replace God with machines.
Music is like its own ecosystem. It has to be cultivated; it must come from somewhere. It has to resonate with someone.
Using machines to make music isn’t wrong, but outsourcing the music-making endeavor (so to speak) to the machines is how we kill ourselves.
Your body is a pressure chamber. Play it like a pipe organ. Sing. Hum. Tap your toes. Take a deep breath and listen. Be aware of sound as a presence, like light. Don’t forget what you are.
Don’t give up the only good thing in life that comes entirely free, with holistic benefits, and no strings attached—no pun intended.

Attention to the Resistance!
There have been murmurs of complaints. I know what you’ve been saying; “The Machine keeps eating our language of resistance and forcing us to invent new terms as we watch the old become zombified, codified compliance slop.”
Okay.
So, did you sign up to own the trademark on some words, or what’s the deal there?
Hey, don’t you worry. We’ve always been able to get the word out without words. Trust me.
Anyway, that’s not the PSA, this is the PSA: I love you! Oh, and by the way, help is here, and it’s coming now.

My pet peeve is when people say “early” or “late 2000s,” so I’m making this PSA:
It is still the “early 2000s” as we speak. Right now, this is the “early 2000s,” and it won’t be the “late 2000s” for another 800 years or so, at which point we’ll all be dead.
Please, stop calling 2009 the “late 2000s” unless you want to make people think you’re a time traveler who failed history class.

slowly realizing that I am not okay at all...
I was in a bad car wreck last year. Totaled. I’m glad I work from home, because I still don’t have a car.
To this day, my neck pain only gets worse. My neck is constantly stiff, and sore. I am afraid, terrified of having spinal fusion or cranio cervical instability.
The bone in my arm has regrown with the help of a plate, but the arm is still partially numb and sometimes it hurts or even itches. Also, my wrist has reduced range of motion.
Everything takes concentration to do, down to walking and breathing and even sitting still. And I can’t ever seem to take a good deep breath.
My ribs are stiff, and sometimes pinch in back. My shoulders are misaligned and crooked, and so are my hips. It seems like my entire skeleton is out of whack. Sore, tense, chronically exhausted, and now afraid to even turn my head.
But hey, at least I have an autism diagnosis. So I’ve got that going for me, which is nice.

How do you cultivate safety in sensitive discussions with the people you care about?
Have you changed anyone’s mind about anything, ever?
How do you speak with a loved one who holds mistaken/harmful beliefs in such a way that you avoid activating their fight/flight response?
Modern life is fraught with discussions about sensitive subjects. Nobody likes being insulted or frustrated by an argument.
However, cutting contact feels like abandoning the premise of society itself.
Saying “we won’t discuss this” is the mark of dogma. It’s a religious kind of certainty about things that are not in fact certain.
How do you satisfy a skeptic of your beliefs without lying to them or yourself, without hurting anyone’s feelings? How do you challenge someone else’s beliefs with the same care?
Is such a thing even possible, or is humanity doomed?

i’ve been thinking a lot about the social aspect of pain this week.
at least here in America, the expectation seems to be that you need to shut up, suck it up, and ‘go along to get along.’
I think that’s backwards. sure, listening to somebody else complain may not be the most fun activity. but the overwhelming success of things like talk therapy proves that people need to talk about their feelings and experiences in order to process them in a healthy way.
that’s why the question “how are you?” evokes so much disillusionment: We know you don’t really care.
it’s almost like you’re taunting us to think about our pain and forcing us to deny it to your face with an “I’m fine, thank you.”
we’re all conditioning each other into deeper and deeper pits of self denial. it has to fucking stop.

There is no shame in suffering, struggle, or pain.
Living things struggle to move. That is the sign of life. If you aren’t struggling, that means you’re dead already.
The things you care about are worth the pain. No cost-benefit analysis should place the risk of life above the risk of death. Choose self compassion over self loathing. Choose yourself!

Hello. “Near miss” is not an oxymoron.
If two objects achieve close vicinity to each other at high velocity without touching, the objects are near each other, and they missed each other. Thus, ‘near miss.’
“Nearly missed” could be more oxymoronic, but a literal interpretation clears up confusion. “nearly missed” doesn’t mean “almost missed,” it means “missed very close to target.”
There, now you’ve nearly missed some grammatical misinformation.

Free posture tips:
- Relax the back of your head.
- Breathe through your nose.
- Stand with your feet about hip width apart.
- Relax your jaw. Rest your tongue against the roof of your mouth.
- Take a deep breath, let all of the tension out of your body. Then breathe in again and find a nice comfy middle ground.
- Look up Kegels. Use that muscle just 👌 this much for everything you do. Don’t overdo it. In Yoga they call this “Mula Bandha.” It’s considered the most important muscle in the body, and it supports all of your internal organs.
- It’s not about standing “straight.” It’s about supporting yourself through your core, and finding a relaxed way to be all the time.
- Move with your bones, not your muscles.

Enjoying some delicious coffee.

I’m a Mac guy all the way, but I am very broke. I had a 2013 Macbook Air which died in 2020.

Woke up a little dysregulated this morning. Bloating disconnects my pelvis and shoulders, which allows the shoulders to start to hunch up into my neck and pinch my nerves. Staying calm and being grateful for the freedom I can find today.
The layers of freedom continue to reveal themselves and I am ever grateful!

More growing pains today. My sinuses are opening up on the left side of my head. Neck and shoulders are still stiff as hell but opening up more. Ulnar nerves tender on both sides of head (especially left side) but head continues to automagically right itself atop my spinal column. Practicing gratitude and reminding myself that frustration is repatterning in the brain. Kindness as discipline.

LLMs are BS machines. However, they’re being used in corporate communication, and to write legal briefs.
If a LLM (read: BS machine) can do the job indistinguishably from a real professional in the field, doesn’t that make the whole job BS in the first place?
If a LLM is threatening your job, doesn’t that make your job BS anyway?

I just had the idea to “gamify” my life with a points system:
A perfect day is 100 points.
Clock in early: 15 points Eat breakfast: 10 points Walk/feed Ollie in the morning: 10 points Pack a lunch: 20 points Practice piano 30 minutes: 30 points Spend less than $20: 15 points Work out: 15 points Sleep before 10 pm: 10 points Sleep before 9 pm: 20 points
Idk what the points will amount to, but I do know the brain responds better to positive reinforcement. Perhaps after I reach an arbitrary number of earned points, I’ll buy myself something cool.

I’ve given myself until the end of the month to decide if I’ve just got a bad attitude, or I really do hate this job. Day 4 of being an apprentice electrician AKA fucking grunt work.
Took inventory of every tool on the entire site by myself. Running around the jobsite with an iPhone tracking down equipment that I am forced to assume exists.
Why doesn’t every foreman on the site just inventory their own stuff? They’re the ones keeping their work site organized in the first place. Why delegate that task to materials hands alone? How much other stuff are we doing that’s a massive waste of time?

Toxic positivity is the opposite of gratitude. Don’t get it twisted.
It’s unhealthy to pretend a bad situation is just fine.
Gratitude is the acknowledgement of pain and suffering. It is the very appreciation of the fact that life is so hard.
Gratitude acknowledges the joy & light you fought tooth and nail to claim. It is not some misguided suppression of sadness.
Being happy is your obligation to your past selves for all their struggles. You worked to be where you are today; You ought to enjoy it.

Perfection doesn’t exist. There are no perfect objects. There is no perfect product, no perfect work.
There is only objects, products, and work. When you set up a perfect ideal in your mind, you set yourself up for failure. Have the idea, and give yourself permission to fall short. You can always make corrections later.
The most beautiful phrase in the English language is “that’s done now.”
