SURVIVING AND THRIVING.

EARNING AND LEARNING.

Advice to young people.

Apprenticeships, Degrees, Degree Apprenticeships.

Don’t abandon maths, physics, chemistry too quickly as it restricts opportunities.

Humble job title for Dad (for Uni entry working class kids get help).

Study / train only in STEM / vocational / technical subjects (age 14-23). Do NVQ, C&G, BTEC, A Levels , first degree, PGCE, MSc MBA PhD what ever you can.

Get postgraduate training.

Uni exams, Professional Society exams (ACCA, CIMA),  technology company exams (Oracle, SAP, Cisco, Microsoft).

Maximize your Education, Training and Credentials. Become an elite technocratic knowledge worker (globally mobile). Be an employee, then freelance gig economy worker, then business person.

Avoid undergrad degrees in:

sociology (social work better degree) and business management (unless at Russell Group Uni), (do CFA, MBA later);

psychology and economics (unless you do MSc and PhD as well).

Maths with Physics, Finance, Economics, Computer Science combined degrees are good.

Masters degrees increasingly important for jobs. (If a BSc can’t land you a job then MSc may).

MBAs still good. And PhD.

Posh Uni masters can overcome unposh BSc.

Bad undergrad choice can be fixed with smart choice of masters degree: Real Estate Mgm, Surveying, Construction Project Mgm, HR Mgm, Banking, Finance, Islamic Banking/Finance; 4 year medical degree in Poland (conversion). Physicians asst / assoc. (2 year degree).

Work in:

Medical, Health, Social Work (doctor, dentist, physicians associate, pharmacist, nurse, midwife, physiotherapist, social worker);

Construction and Property (architect, chartered structural engineer, civil, quantity surveyor, building surveyor chartered; AutoCAD technician.

Non degree building trades very lucrative: NVQ/City & Guilds courses.

Teaching: Primary, Secondary, Uni, TEFAL.

IT and coding (Uni, private training companies: coding boot camps). Prince2, Agile.

Advanced technologies eg Semiconductors, AI, Avionics, Propulsion systems, aerospace, Fusion Eng, Robotics.

No degree: electrician, plumber (man in a van with tools); estate agent (buy a suit); NVQ, C&G, local technical colleges, private training firms.

Less common options:

Univ of London online degrees,

Birkbeck College (Uni of London) evening degrees and 4 year part time degrees.

Open University

Study real estate management (work in London or Dubai).

Hybrid working / work from home. (Possible to do multiple full time jobs; multiple income streams).

Closing Themes:

Do ‘A’ level maths and science (not doing so massively closes off numerous options).

Learn Arabic, German and Turkish.

Learn to code.

Study in Germany (free).

Go Eastern Europe to train as doctor or dentist (I have an admissions contact).

Migrate to Germany, Turkiye, Dubai, Baku (the new Dubai).

Massive future opportunities in the Silk Road / Middle Corridor via Istanbul, Baku and Samarkand.

Character Defects

Materialism : Miserliness : Dishonesty : Being Late
