Time to Eliminate

make-big-changes-in-small-steps

I’ve stepped off the scene for some time, but I’m back and ready to make some moves. This time around, I’m making small changes at time.  So I’ve decided to “run my own race, at my own pace.”

As I started this “race” for the month of August, I wanted to focus on eliminating or doing without two things: Facebook and Soda.

facebook-closed-march-15-2011

Yes, I’ve shut down my Facebook book page this month, which meant no distractions.  Here’s what I’ve accomplished:

  1. No Cookie Jam Game App (I am embarrassed to admit that Cookie Jam was my life… I came home and Cookie Jam, went to the bathroom and Cookie Jam, before dinner I Cookie Jam, before I went to bed I Cookie Jam, basically whatever I did Cookie Jam came in before and after it…. Yes, pathetic! Since there’s no Facebook, I decided to delete the game.)
  2. Depression decreased tremendously (People tend to show the best parts of their life on Facebook as if their life is that 24/7 or they give you the illusion that they have the best life… EVER! So, I often think what am I doing wrong because my life is far from that. But I have to consistently remind myself that 99.9% of the things I see on Facebook are not as they appear to be. But now that I’m not on Facebook, I don’t see much but REAL life.)
  3. Major accomplishments on my To-Do List (Eliminating Facebook and Cookie Jam has given me drive to get things accomplished. It has become so exciting to look on my white board and check off what has been done. I’ve went from 25% to 75% of my task being completed. Yes!)
  4. Getting to bed on time (There were nights I wouldn’t go to sleep until I passed a level on Cookie Jam. Those game apps are the devil! Before you know it, you’ve passed 5 levels and its two hours late. Or how about those stupid quizzes on Facebook (eg. What does your name say about you?) Lesson learned: I will not be downloading anymore game apps or completing any Fb quizzes. They’re no good for me…)

soda

Now let’s discuss the “No Soda Challenge”.  Lord help me because I can just taste the Pepsi in my mouth. I am definitely going through a soda withdrawal. I’ve gone without soda for many years prior to 2009, so I know I can overcome this. Its been 17 days and I am proud of myself.

I have to remind myself that there are no benefits to drinking soda, NONE at all!

  1. Empty calories/ No nutritional value
  2. It increases belly fat and increases your risk for diabetes (and this gut has gotta go!)
  3. Rots your teeth
  4. Causes health problems such as headaches, memory loss, depression, and the list goes on…

So, I am on the right track to getting myself back to the swing of things. Removing Facebook and soda from on daily life has challenge me to discipline my mind and my body. Its showing me that I do have willpower and its up to me to be active in change. Ultimately, I was more focused on eliminating soda from my diet and as an emotional comfort, but at the rate I am going I don’t know if I want to be a part of Facebook anymore. I am doing better without it. But we shall see…

Share if you have eliminated something out of your life and tell me about your progress.
