The Notes
Poetry – Wilfred Owen
Play – Macbeth
My IOC
I managed a 7 for my IOC, but I’m not sure where I lost the marks, nor what the overall score was.
How I suggest studying for the IOC
I think the only reason I survived my IOC was preparation – don’t assume that certain extracts won’t come out, prepare to do presentations on all of them, ensure you know each scene inside out. Don’t forget to link the underlying themes and tones to the historical, social or cultural context of the piece. For example, in Macbeth, Shakespeare uses equivocation to describe the witches in Scene 1 to highlight how they are unnatural – this is because he was deliberately tailoring his work to impress King James of England, his patron and a man who was superstitious and had participated in witch hunts. Introduce context immediately if you can, like when the work was written and why it was written, as well as what was going on at the time.
Thank you so much for your notes! Helps a lot. π
