Dr. Hala Kufaishi
Clinical Director
Dr. Hala Kufaishi is an experienced Internal Medicine Consultant, Clinical Professor at McMaster University, and a recognized expert in Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome. She holds a Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (2019) and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
Dr. Kufaishi has extensive expertise in the management of metabolic syndrome, leading to significant improvements in type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). She is deeply committed to advancing patient care in this rapidly evolving field and to driving innovation in metabolic health and obesity medicine.
As the Founder, Medical Director, and CEO of The Weight Clinic in Mississauga, Ontario, Dr. Kufaishi has led multidisciplinary teams in delivering personalized, evidence-based care to thousands of patients, focusing on obesity and related metabolic disorders.
In addition to over five years of clinical and academic teaching experience, Dr. Kufaishi brings two decades of research expertise. She is deeply involved in medical education and research in Obesity Medicine, and previously served as Chair of the Hamilton Chapter of Obesity Canada. Her work reflects a strong passion for evidence-based practice, interprofessional collaboration, and patient-centered care.
Dr. Kristeen Eshak

Dr. Eshak completed her medical residency training in the Internal Medicine Program at McMaster University.
Spending hours on the hospital wards provided her with a front row seat to the havoc chronic illness wreak on individual and population health.
These experiences ignited an enthusiasm for identifying and managing the root cause of chronic illnesses , in particular metabolic syndrome.
Dr. Eshak also works at Credit Valley Hospital in the General Internal Medicine Department, and holds an adjunct clinical faculty appointment within the University of Toronto Department of Medicine.
Dr. Eshak is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
Dr. Jimmy Zhang
Dr. Jimmy Zhang
He holds an FRCPC in Internal Medicine and is an American Board of Obesity Medicine Diplomate Candidate.
Dr. Zhang’s primary clinical practice is in hospital-based Internal Medicine, where he manages complex acute and chronic illnesses.
Through this work, he sees firsthand the significant consequences of poor metabolic health on a daily basis, including cardiovascular disease, advanced diabetes complications, and end-organ dysfunction.
This perspective strongly informs his proactive and preventative approach to obesity medicine. Dr. Zhang has expertise in the comprehensive management of obesity and its related conditions, including type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, and metabolic associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
