There are three course themes to choose from, which all give your students the independence and skills to design and code an app prototype that solves a real-world problem, important to them. Courses can be delivered by specialist computing or non-specialist teachers, with ready-made resources and quality content mapped to KS3/S1-3 computing curriculums.

I could see that the general app development product was really just plug and play, it was great. I didn't have to do a lot of preparation beforehand. It's just that easy to get started. It's clearly presented, very professional looking. And so it was great. I found it really useful to just dive into. You can give it out to the kids and they can work from it with minimum supervision.
We have just finished teaching the course and we are preparing our presentations for the showcase. It has been a fantastic experience and we will be delivering the course again next year. The students have really enjoyed learning about the climate and making their apps to raise awareness.
When you talk about technology, especially apps, it's going to motivate students and it's something that they use every day. Before Apps for Good, they don't realise that they can have a direct role in that. They're intrinsically motivated to want to learn about apps and through Apps for Good, we can channel that into something that's productive for them. We've done the climate change topic because of our whole school and Trust sustainability strategy.
For staff it is rewarding seeing the students flourish, coming up with their own ideas and running it as I step back. I occasionally gave a prompt or guide, but by large, it allowed their independence to blossom and grow across the course of the programme.
The materials are easy to download. The courses are really structured well. The students found it really accessible. Our students have not just learned about coding skills or app building skills, they've learned about working together, they've had to learn to work together to communicate and it's brought some of them out of shyness, and made them feel more confident as well.
