What Water Features Flow With Your Backyard Design?

Designing your custom oasis means choosing pool water features that match your outdoor living goals. Whether it’s the sound of a bubbling fountain or the elegance of a cascading waterfall, we can bring your vision to life with features that enhance tranquility and style.
Image

Bubblers

Bubblers provide playful water streams, perfect for kids, and create ambiance without extra masonry work. They are a budget-friendly option to add to your Baja shelf or spa, producing a relaxing sound and atmosphere in your backyard.
Image

Deck Jets

Deck Jets produce shimmering water arcs from your deck into the pool, often arranged in groups for added elegance. These water features provide visual and audible tranquility, adding a spectacular element to your pool.
Image

Pool Scuppers

Pool Scuppers deliver a peaceful cascade of water, creating a serene and elegant atmosphere. Scuppers are typically placed in an elevated area of the pool on a column or pool wall. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your scuppers to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.
Image

Rain Sheer

A Rain Sheer adds the most dramatic display and sound of cascading water to your backyard. This luxurious addition adds an alluring visual and audible ambiance that will stand out amongst any other water feature.
Image

Sheer Descents

Sheer Descents create a thinner and wider waterfall with more of a glass-like appearance. These sheets of water still produce a heightened sense of tranquility but aren’t as loud as a scupper. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your sheer descents to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.
Image

Pool Water Bowls

Pool Water Bowls are large decorative pieces that are placed on top of pillars or the pool deck. Transform your environment with the peaceful sound of water flowing from these unique fountains. You can customize the size, shape, and materials for your Water Bowls to perfectly fit the aesthetic of your outdoor oasis.

From contemporary sheer descents to naturalistic rock formations, these elements are designed to bring movement, sound, and visual interest to your space. Grottos add a sense of destination, creating tucked-away areas that feel both playful and private. Whether you’re drawn to a clean, architectural finish or something that mimics the natural environment, each detail is designed to complement the surrounding materials and reflect your personal style.

When Water & Fire Work Together

Fire enhances water in all the right ways. A raised water wall lit with flame adds depth and visual rhythm. A fire-topped water bowl becomes a sculptural centerpiece. These elements invite you to look closer and stay longer. When we design fire and water together, the result is something that feels both elevated and personal, layered with light, sound, and movement.

My wife and I just had to share how amazing our new California pool is! We had the pleasure of working with an incredible team to bring our dream to life. Sara Dougan was truly instrumental in keeping the project moving and coordinating all the subcontractors seamlessly. She was always available to answer any questions we had and went above and beyond to ensure we were happy with every step of the process. Matt White was also super helpful and caring when it came to ensuring that there were no issues with the start-up process. His attention to detail and thoroughness gave us the peace of mind that our pool would be ready to go when we were. And let's not forget about Paul Swirski, who created an amazing design that completely exceeded our expectations. He was always available to discuss any questions or concerns we had and really brought our vision to life. Overall, we couldn't be happier with our new pool and the team that made it possible. Thank you so much to Sara, Matt, Paul, and everyone else who helped bring this project to life. We highly recommend them for any pool project you may have!

Cal Pools team were excellent with service, follow up, and were very friendly! I was out of town much of the time they were building my pool and they went out of their way to stay in touch with me and keep me up to date on progress. I can't recommend them enough! Matt, Vina and Marc were terrific:)

We are very happy with our pool and the overall experience with California Pools. We looked at several other pool companies and we are really happy that we ended up going with California Pools. We started our project in April of 2021 with Les. He listened to what we wanted and really worked to create a design that fit our requirements for both the pool and the landscaping. Once we signed, things moved along. We did experience a delay when they hit hard dig about 6" down... we expected this knowing the area we're in. But after a change order for the cost of a hard dig, things progressed again. Nothing else major came up during the rest of the project and our Construction Manager, Dustin, was absolutely great to work with. He is a rockstar. He and Sara were responsive to any questions or concerns we had and worked to address them. Crews were respectful, not leaving trash behind, and friendly when we would come out to see or ask questions. This project did take a while and we did challenge Dustin as we got to May 2022 to have us in the water by Memorial Day. Dustin delivered, just in time! The landscaping really impressed us as well. The quality of the plants and trees was great, and their team has been great to work with. I've seen some of the negative reviews and want to add that a construction project like this isn't going to be turnkey. You have to be engaged. Go out and look at what's being done in your yard - ask questions, help the Construction Manager help you. They're not there every day, but you are. Understand that your yard is construction zone until complete - people will come and go. Schedules aren't always exact. Your construction manager is your best friend during this process. Be kind, be patient. If you team up with them, you'll have a great experience and end up with a great backyard.

California pools has created the most relaxing, inviting and beautiful backyard space for my home. The construction process was easy and there was constant communication. Any issues or concerns were always immediately addressed and corrected. The app provided a tracking trail for every action taken in my backyard. From working with Doug, Victoria and Dylan to all of the subcontractors this has been a wonderful contracting experience. In the final phase they pushed to complete the job in time for me to hold my sister's wedding in the backyard. All of the guests were blown away by the beautiful pool and landscape.

Ran into some issues with our Salt Cell and despite some frustration with the warehouse, Cal Pools did a fantastic job as the middle person between me and the place where I was to pick-up a salt cell. Specifically, Lisa was amazing. She kept us updated, took the time to troubleshoot the issue with the warehouse and with Hayward. And was incredibly responsive. Cal pools and Lisa took care of me and tonight, my salt pool is operating normally.

We have had a California Pool for nearly twenty years and have always enjoyed the use over this time without concern. When we were planing and did our homework we selected California Pools because of the reputation, warranty and top reviews. We were very fortunate because over the years the quality and low maintenance proved itself. In the very few times we have needed their attention, it was responded to with the customer in mind and immediate. We are pleased to recommend California Pools when you want a quality pool built.

Mimi and I would like to thank Robert "Bobby" Lory, the construction manager for our pool project for providing exceptional expertise and customer service! Ever since we first met him, he has been to our project site every time work is being started or completed and even periodically in between depending upon the task being performed. He does a great job to ensure that the work crews complete their tasks on a timely basis and with close attention to the quality that each step requires. The project is nearing completion and we can see that the realization of our "oasis" is becoming more and more evident! We can't wait to enjoy our resort pool and our dogs can't wait to run in the backyard. We would highly recommend Bobby and California Pools on any pool construction project you may choose to pursue. They have a great team! And the App comes in handy too! Thanks again!Mimi & Rich

I also posted a review to the California Pool's Chandler location, but am also posting here as Scottsdale is our closest location. As we had hoped, the end result is stunning, and has made the process worth it. Please see the attached photos. After multiple delays in the construction timeline, we expressed our concerns and frustrations to California Pools, and they responded by assigning a team to ensure that they delivered on our vision of the backyard. Not everything was perfect--construction never is--but we received timely communications and resolutions. Above all else, California Pools was focused on the quality and longevity of the end product, even if items had to be redone. A big thanks to Jeremiah, Marissa, and Scott N. (and others along the way) for their commitment and professionalism with tough circumstances. If I take an honest look at the last several years, I would say that it was a complex project starting in a complex time (COVID). Labor and supply shortages brought challenges, and neither party expected the timeline to stretch as long as it did. In the end, California Pools righted the ship and delivered.

I could not be happier with the customer service provided by California Pools and Landscape. We had a few unforeseen hiccups along the way, but Noah S & Vianna L took great care of my project and resolved the issues. To me, customer service and warranty follow through are as important (if not more than) the product, and they have absolutely delivered on all fronts. I was referred to Cal Pools for the customer service and Noah and Vianna did not disappoint! They both attended to my project and the warranty repairs as if it was their top priority even though I know they have many other customers to serve. Our pool and landscaping are absolutely beautiful and we are thrilled to get to enjoy our heated pool year round. You have earned a life long customer!

California Pools recently completed mypool construction project at my home in Maricopa. Their staff was excellent and guided me threw the different construction phases and keep me informed as to what was happening next on my quest to create the background that I hoping to create and enjoy. My consultant Doug was very helpful as was Lesile, my project manager that guided me threw the final and most important construction phase! In the end, I saw my backyard come to life and become one that exceeded my expectations I believe because of California Pools attention to detail, and quality construction work! Thank you very much for everything. Ray Maricopa AZ

Everything from day one meeting with Brian our designer at the Queen Creek office, to the finished product went smooth. We got few different quotes, and California was not the cheapest, but for the additional 5k we received better products all the way around. (Pebbletec color choices, travertine and pool tile options, and better landscaping irrigation options). Our superintendent Don, and our construction manager Michelle were always communicating with us also. We have the most amazing property in the entire community in Copper Basin in STV. We are some very pleased new residents in AZ, and we don't miss Wisconsin at all.

California Pools completed a total redesign and update of our 30+ yr old backyard and also recommended and installed a fabulous new long driveway with spectacular pavers and custom curbing. The back yard re-design was eye catching, the reality completed is a stunning look, function, feel and terrific upgrade. We relocated a hot tub, added a large ramada, changed the shape of the pool, added water features, resurfaced several thousand feet of hardscape to exquisite limestone pool decking/walkways/patios. Landscaping and lighting updates and the latest router controlled pool equipment are the capstone to a total makeover. Wow is how we feel about the project. Visitors are stunned with the total transformation. We are grateful for Jeremiah Price who was the Superintendent from start to finish of the project. Jeremiah is a gifted leader, and is totally client-centric and knows construction. There was no end to his ability to adapt and find the way forward and to make the time to keep us informed and in the loop throughout the project. Thank you Jeremiah. We highly recommend CP and Jeremiah if you are looking for a professional team that makes beautiful transformations happen.

We redid our ENTIRE yard with California Pools last spring. We were a little cautious when selecting such a large pool company. We were afraid we'd get lost in the mix. Let me just say, that could'nt be farther from the truth! We were able to reach someone immediately, including weekends! They went above and beyond and gave us OUTSTANDING attention from start to finish. Even after our project was complete we have still contacted them and have always had any questions/concerns answered immediately! Our backyard was transformed into an outdoor oasis for our family and meets the needs of our pets, small children and my husband and I. Customer service was top notch with every person we dealt with! We would do business with them again and again and will always refer California Pools so anyone! We just wish customer service were like this everywhere, beacause it's rare to find these days! We consider them friends and felt cared for from start to finish and beyond!

The Cal Pool team was awesome to work with and made a long standing dream come true. We couldn't be happier with how they guided us through the process to transform our backyard into a true oasis that amazes us each time we go outside. We've never been through this type of project but Dave C made the entire design process fun and easy to understand, Nathan R was provided fantastic oversight of the build process, and Ciarra T was there every step of the way to help answer questions about billing, change orders, and other administrative details. And the Cal Pool app was a slick way of allowing us to know all milestones that had been completed, that were scheduled to be complete, and to help detail all of the actions that occur throughout this process. Also important to note that all of the Cal Pool subcontractors were amazing and courteous. And we couldn't be happier with the finished product!

My wife and I for several years have always wanted our own pool in the backyard. Finally the time was right for us so we enlisted the help of California Pools. Ted Jimenez was the representative that California Pools sent to our house for our first meeting. I am a very skeptical person but Ted was very receptive to what my wife and I were looking for input project. He hit it out of the park with the design by both including our wants along with his ideas to create a spectacular design. Once we finalized our deal and began the project we were assigned our project manager Todd. Our project was far from perfect and had some difficulties but between Ted and Todd they were able to provide us with everything we're looking for. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the end result and all of the great service we received through the project. Many thanks to Todd, Ted and the rest of the staff who all had a hand in our pool!! I would definitely recommend California Pools!

This is the second pool project Mike Lillis has completed for us, and just like the first time, he and his team delivered an outstanding job. The entire build process was seamless and efficient thanks to the excellent staff. Ciarra was phenomenal at communication; she kept us thoroughly informed through every step of the construction and was always a pleasure to work with. Furthermore, Steve expertly managed the entire pool build from start to finish, consistently taking care of every small detail and ensuring a smooth completion. The overall experience was excellent, and we are confidently looking forward to working with them again on our new home build.

After years of above ground pools we decided to get an in-ground pool. California pools have been great from design to completion. They took their time listening to what we wanted but knew all the in and outs of what our city allowed. Seeing their design pictures was amazing and were patient as we went through colors of the different areas. Seeing them on a big screen sealed the deal. Every person we have dealt with kept us up to date with construction and time tables. The app they have makes things easy to maneuver and enjoyed seeing what the next step would be. We have been enjoying our new pool for a few weeks. Our backyard went from blah to beautiful!

When we decided to have a pool built we checked out several pool companies and found that only California Pools understood our vision. Other pools companies gave us boring and outdated designs and some even pushed back when we asked for new designs. Our designer at Cal pools Matt Sauer worked with us until we were 100% satisfied with our design (and 8 change orders during the construction because we were super indecisive) and we felt no pressure. During the construction our construction manager Jeremiah was extreemly helpful and ensured our pool was built properly and with excellent quality. He always worked with our scheduling coordinator Sara and let us know the phases of construction that we were in and helped us make any last min changes to ensure we were happy. I would definitely recommend California Pools to design and build your pool!

Many thanks for the outstanding job California Pools did for us. From start to finish your company and it's personnel excelled in providing excellent service. I couldn't be more pleased. A special thanks to LeeAnn for always keeping us informed about our schedule. Sean Beavers was our project manager. Outstanding! Sean is a true professional and was always right on top of every detail. He was always available or returned my calls immediately. I could ask anything of him during this project and he always came back with a "can do" attitude and made it happen. One time I called him and told him there was flooding in my side yard. I thought there was something wrong with the new plumbing that had been installed that day. He came over after I had left for work and discovered that it was a drip system problem and had nothing to do with the pool renovation he was overseeing. Sean dug up the main line, found the split in it, and repaired it on the spot. He didn't have to do that, but he did. That's the kind of guy he is. That's the kind of company California Pools is. You guys are Rock Stars. California Pools initially installed my pool many years ago and now has done an amazing job at renovating it and making it look better than new again. I had it re-pebbleteched, added two new sitting benches, all new plumbing and lighting, and resurfaced my decks with travertine. The project came in on schedule with absolutely no glitches. Again, many thanks for the outstanding job you all do. I give you guys a solid 10 for excellence.

I could not be happier with California Pools and Spa for my total landscape and pool. Every team and person that I worked with was professional, but more importantly pleasant and great to work with from the design master Brian Fox, to the schedule coordinator Sara Dougan, to the project manager Jordan Thrasher, and everyone in between. I thought their bid was very comparable to others. all the neighbors agree that all the landscapes in this area by this company are far and above the other companies.

In an industry that's rife with companies that lack integrity, reliability, and the resources to deliver on time (or at all in some cases), California Pools and Landscaping is the gold standard for making things happen. My hat's off to their designer Cory Blackwell, superintendent Kevin Everhart, and Construction Coordinator Leann Madar in taking our vision of a backyard oasis and making it a reality that exceeded our expectations. From 2D drawings to 3D model to demolition to underground rough-in to the finished product, it was quite the accelerated journey to witness a concept materialize. There were a couple of code challenges that popped up, but CPL was able to intercept and correct the issues to stay on schedule and avoid any red tags by Developmental Services. I've been in construction for 40 years and counting, and I have yet to see a project go without a snag, but in my opinion, working with CPL is the best choice in ensuring the job is done as seamlessly as possible. Great management team that raised the bar for customer service--they were extremely professional and responsive. When they schedule work to get done, it gets done...and we're talking high speed, low drag, folks. The workmanship from the travertine pavers to the pebble finish of the pool was flawless and beautiful, and the scope of work was completed impressively fast. As I first mentioned, there are a lot of companies out there trying to sell their ability to do the work you want, but do your research, do a deep dive on reviews, and check the BBB if there are any complaints filed against them. There are too many flakes and hacks in the valley that claim to be pool contractors, so do yourself and your dream project a favor and do your homework. In my humble opinion, California Pools and Landscaping stands head-and-shoulders above the rabble. They're not cheap, but A++ results speaks for itself. My name is Ajax, and I endorse this review.

Frequently Asked Questions About Water Features

Q: What Should I Consider Before Adding a Pool Water Feature?

When adding a Pool Water Feature, it’s important to consider where you’d like it located in your yard and what you’d like it to sound like. Considering what the focal point is when looking at your backyard from your home will help you land on the ideal location for your water feature or pool water wall. A bubbler or deck jet will produce less sound than a scupper or Rock Grotto. For example, placing a scupper near your lounge area can create a relaxing atmosphere, while bubblers on your Baja shelf add playful aesthetics.

Q: What is the difference between a Scupper & Sheer Descent?

Scuppers are built with various options available for the width and size of the waterfall that falls into the pool, creating a relaxing noise. They are often installed on columns, pillars or water walls. A Sheer Descent creates a wider and thinner waterfall that produces a relaxing sound that isn’t as loud as a Scupper.

Q: What if I want a design feature that has both a fire element and a water feature included?

As a custom and complete backyard builder, we can turn your dreams into a reality. We’ve built thousands of design features that incorporate both water & fire features, all custom-built to best fit their respective design aesthetic. Whatever sparks your backyard inspiration can be brought to life by our team of talented designers.

Q: Can Pool Water Features Be Added to an Existing Pool?

Yes, water features can be added to an existing pool! From soothing waterfalls to playful deck jets, we can seamlessly integrate features that enhance your pool’s design and create a relaxing, dynamic backyard oasis.

Q: How do I choose a water feature for my pool?

Choosing the right water feature for your pool depends on your style preferences, backyard design, and the ambiance you want to create. Our designers can guide you through options based on your budget, pool size, and preferred style. Consider these factors:

  • Design Aesthetic: Features like waterfalls or rock grottos add a natural, resort-like feel, while bubblers and deck jets provide a sleek, modern touch.
  • Functionality: Think about how you’ll use the feature. Deck jets or scuppers add elegance and sound, while bubblers are great for shallow areas where kids play.
  • Space and Budget: Larger features like rock grottos may require more space and investment, while smaller elements like scuppers or sheer descents can fit into more compact designs.
  • Customization: Look for features with options to match your pool’s materials, such as tiles or finishes that align with your overall backyard aesthetic.

Q: Does a pool waterfall need its own pump?

Swimming pool waterfalls typically require their own pump to ensure optimal water flow and functionality. A dedicated pump allows the waterfall to operate independently from your pool’s main circulation system, providing a consistent flow of water for a seamless and tranquil appearance. By having a separate pump, you can also control the water flow rate of the waterfall to match the ambiance you want in your backyard.

Q: Can water features like fountains and waterfalls help cool my pool?

Swimming pool water features like fountains and waterfalls can help cool your pool, especially in hot climates. The continuous water movement they create promotes evaporation, which naturally lowers the water temperature.

Q: How do I maintain a pool waterfall?

Regular cleaning is essential to prevent debris buildup, particularly around the spillway, to maintain the appearance and functionality of the waterfall.

Q: What should I consider before installing a pool waterfall?

  • Pool size: Ensure the waterfall’s size is proportionate to your pool to maintain balanced water flow.
  • Aesthetics: Choose a design that complements your pool and backyard style.
  • Safety: Incorporate safety features to prevent injuries, especially if children use the pool.

Q: How long do pool bubblers last?

Pool bubblers typically last 5–10 years with proper maintenance. Longevity depends on the quality of the bubbler, frequency of use, and regular care. Signs that a bubbler may need replacement include reduced water flow, clogging, or visible damage.

Q: How do pool bubblers work?

Pool bubblers operate by circulating water through a pump and hose, which then flows out of a nozzle to create bubbles. The size of the pump determines the intensity and number of bubbles produced, adding a dynamic effect to the pool.

Q: How do I maintain a pool bubbler?

To maintain a pool bubbler, clean the pump filter regularly and check for any blockages in the nozzle. Removing debris helps maintain consistent water flow and prevents wear on the system.

Q: Can I add lights to a pool bubbler?

Yes, lights can be added to a pool bubbler to enhance its visual appeal, especially at night. Many modern bubblers are compatible with pool automation and lighting systems for synchronized effects.

Q: Are pool bubblers worth it?

Pool bubblers are an affordable and stylish way to add personality and a touch of elegance to your pool. Perfect for Baja shelves or shallow areas, they create playful water streams and a relaxing ambiance, enhancing both the aesthetic and enjoyment of your outdoor space. With their versatile design and budget-friendly appeal, pool bubblers are an excellent addition to any backyard oasis.

Q: Will deck jets cool a pool?

Deck jets can help cool a pool slightly by promoting water circulation and evaporation as the water streams back into the pool. While the cooling effect is minimal, it can make the water feel more refreshing, especially on hot days.

Q: Can you add deck jets to an existing pool?

Yes, deck jets can be added to an existing pool. The process typically involves installing new plumbing lines and integrating the jets into the pool deck. While it may require some modifications to your current setup, consulting a professional ensures proper installation, compatibility with your pool system, and a seamless finish. Adding deck jets is a great way to enhance your pool’s design and create a visually stunning and relaxing environment.

Q: How do pool deck jets work?

Pool deck jets operate by using a pump to send a stream of water arching gracefully from the pool deck into the pool. The water stream creates a shimmering effect that adds visual and auditory tranquility to the pool area. Many deck jets are adjustable, allowing you to control the height and angle of the water flow.

Q: Where do you put deck jets on a pool?

Deck jets are typically installed along the pool deck near the edge, spaced evenly to create a balanced look. Their placement depends on the desired visual effect and the layout of the pool area, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with the overall design. They are often installed in groups for maximum impact.

Q: What are pool scuppers?

Pool scuppers are openings on the side of a pool that allows water to flow out, often creating elegant visual and auditory effects. They assist in maintaining a steady water level, enhance water movement, and contribute to a calming atmosphere around your pool area.

Q: What are scuppers made from?

Scuppers can be crafted from materials such as copper, stainless steel, oil-rubbed bronze, or stone. These options allow for customization to match your pool’s style and overall design aesthetic.

Q: How are scuppers installed?

Scuppers are typically installed in groups, often in threes, on raised walls, columns, or standard pool walls. Their placement enhances both the functionality and the visual appeal of your pool design.

Q: How much do scuppers cost?

The cost of a single pool scupper ranges from $100 to $300. However, the price may increase if additional structures like raised walls or columns are needed to house the scuppers.

Q: How do I clean pool scuppers?

Clean scuppers with distilled or purified water and a soft cloth. For water spots, use a product like Windex, and for light buildup, mild soap or vinegar works well. Avoid abrasive cleaners like steel wool, sandpaper, mineral acids, bleach, or chlorine-based products to prevent damage.

Q: How often should I clean my scuppers?

Scuppers should be cleaned regularly, at least once a month, to maintain their appearance and functionality. Regular cleaning prevents buildup and keeps water flowing smoothly.

Q: How long can sheer descents be?

Sheer descents can range in length from 8 inches to 8 feet, making them versatile for various pool designs.

Q: How do you customize sheer descents?

The width of a sheer descent is the most customizable feature, allowing you to choose a size that matches your pool design and desired water effect.

Q: How do you install a sheer descent?
