The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, ahead of the NATO Summit in Ankara. The two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to the development of the transatlantic relationship and to common defence within NATO, both highlighting the importance of the Southern Flank.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, spoke over the phone this afternoon with the commander of the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon, Division General Diodato Abagnara. President Meloni expressed her solidarity with the UNIFIL personnel and thanked the Italian troops for their bravery and commitment to stabilising Lebanon, in a context which remains complex. General Abagnara updated President Meloni on the situation on the ground, highlighting the key role played by the Italian Contingent, which is the Mission’s largest.

The third annual ‘Mattei Plan for Africa’ progress report, updated as of 30 June 2026 and adopted during the sixth Steering Committee meeting (held at Palazzo Chigi on 26 June), was sent to Parliament today.

    Ustica disaster: Government to object to dismissal request

    The Government, through the Office of the State Advocate General, will object to the request to close proceedings regarding the investigation into the Ustica disaster, submitted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The hearing for the judge to rule on the dismissal request is scheduled for 30 September. It is currently not yet possible to join the proceedings as a civil party as the preliminary investigation stage is still underway.
