Application Process
The HRPA’s registration year runs from June 1st–May 31st, and you can join at any time. Your application dues will depend on two factors: which class you are applying for – Practitioner, Student, or Allied Professional – and when you join. Dues are pro-rated on a monthly basis, so you only ever pay for the number of months remaining until the next May 31st. For an overview of the current application dues, please click here. Once your payment is processed and your application is approved, payments are not refundable.
When you join the HRPA, if you reside within the province of Ontario, you will be asked to select a Chapter, which functions as your community within the HRPA. We recommend that you select a Chapter close to home/work so you can actively participate in your Chapter. If you reside outside of Ontario, please select ‘Out of Province’ instead. Your dues will be adjusted accordingly since, unfortunately, you will not be able to take advantage of the Chapter community.
The first step in the application process is for you to complete the online application, pay your application dues, and submit any supporting documentation, if applicable. Your application will then be reviewed by an HRPA staff member – that process usually takes between 5–10 business days.
If your application is deemed complete – meaning you have met the good character requirement and all applicable supporting documentation has been received – we will send you a confirmation email and add you to the HRPA’s Public Register. Additionally, we would encourage you to contact your Member Engagement Specialist to find out more about your Chapter Community.
If you are already certified as a human resources professional in Saskatchewan (CPHR), Manitoba (CPHR), or Quebec (CRHA/CRIA), you have two options to receive a CHRP designation in Ontario.
Option One (Standard)
If you would like to complete the standard registration process with the HRPA and receive a CHRP designation, please register with the HRPA.
Then, email registrar@hrpa.ca, letting us know that you have a CPHR designation from Saskatchewan or Manitoba that is in good standing or a CRHA or CRIA designation from Quebec that is in good standing.
Within 10 business days, the HRPA will ask for other required information (e.g., information related to a “yes” answer to a “good character” question) or confirm your registration and add your name to our register, together with your CHRP designation. You have up to six months after that to have your other HR regulatory body provide us with a certificate of good standing to maintain your CHRP designation.
Option Two (Application for Deemed Registration: Maximum Six-Month Duration)
If you are interested in a one-time, six-month deemed certification with the HRPA under the Ontario Labour Mobility Act, 2009, complete and submit the Deemed Certification Application Form, with supporting documents.
The HRPA will review the submitted form. Within 10 business days, the HRPA will ask for other required information or provide you with a notice of receipt.
Once you have been approved for deemed certification as a CHRP, you will be provided with an invoice for the applicable membership dues and, once that has been paid, you will be added to the public register for six months as a registrant with a deemed CHRP designation.

If you hold a CPHR designation from a Canadian province or territory other than Quebec, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan, please contact registrar@hrpa.ca. The HRPA offers 4 routes to meet the education or equivalent requirement for the CHRP and CHRL designations, and the education or experience you already completed may help you meet this requirement. In some cases, you may have also met other requirements for a CHRP or CHRL designation. If you are seeking a CHRE designation, please submit an application. We look forward to assisting you achieve a designation with the HRPA!
If you are already certified as a human resources professional in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, or Quebec, you may choose Option One or Option Two described under the heading “What is the process if I hold a CPHR/CRHA/CRIA designation?”. Option Two is deemed certification and it has a maximum 6-month duration.
If you were previously registered with the HRPA as a member or student, you can re-apply at any time by completing a new application online and rejoin as a Practitioner or, if eligible, as an Allied Professional or as a Student.
To rejoin HRPA, please follow the instructions below:
- Click on “Member and Student Login”
- Enter the email address associated with your previous record and password
- Click on “Dashboard” below the Search icon
- From your Dashboard, click on the “Not Registered? Start a New Registration Application” button and go through the 5 steps until you reach the checkout page
- Click on “Express Check-Out,” enter payment information, then click on “Submit Order”
- A receipt will be sent via email once the payment is processed
If you previously held a designation granted by the HRPA, in addition to rejoining, a separate process would apply to re-activate your designation. Unfortunately, re-applying for registration does not automatically re-grant a designation. If you previously resigned your membership or student registration or it was revoked, you would need to meet all current designation requirements in order to re-achieve your designation. For more detailed information, please review our Reinstatement and Re-Achievement Policy.
For more information about joining the HRPA, please review the Member and Student Handbook or our Registration FAQs.
