Travel Advisory for ISA Mid-Year Conference, Pretoria 2026

The conference organisers wish to provide participants with updated travel and security guidance for their visit to Pretoria, South Africa.

South Africa remains a popular destination for international conferences and academic events. However, as in many major urban centres globally, visitors are advised to exercise normal precautions regarding personal safety and security. Participants should remain aware of their surroundings, particularly when travelling after dark, and take reasonable measures to safeguard personal belongings.

In addition, some civil society groups have announced demonstrations and protest activities on 30 June 2026 related to concerns over illegal immigration. While the precise scale and geographic scope of these activities remain uncertain, some disruptions to traffic and public movement may occur in parts of Gauteng Province such as Pretoria where the conference shall be hosted. However, at present, there is no indication that the planned demonstrations will directly affect conference activities, and participants are encouraged to enjoy their visit while observing the standard safety precautions recommended for international travel.
