Why is calculus the default higher level math in high school and not statistics? Is there a reason I don’t know about? I feel like society would be way better off if they understood the basics of statistics. I’m honestly curious.

Some thoughts on why you should ask a few more questions before jumping to a conclusion about why someone did or didn’t pull a trigger. I spent a few years at SEAL Team Six, so take your air soft tactics and sit this one out. If you’re asking why the counter-sniper didn’t take

It is, if you're doing the equations. But most of humanity won't do those equations outside of school. Newton's laws of gravity can be generally understood without math. We shouldn't take Calculus away, but aren't the principles of stats more applicable to daily life?

Absolutely agree. Regardless of the subject, the more you tie to real world applicability the more likely students will retain the knowledge.

In the SEAL teams we called them one-platoon wonders. Enough experience to speak with “authority” about the 1 way of doing something, but not enough to have wisdom of the infinite options there truly are.

I’d argue most people struggle with this (myself included).

Life came at me fast. It got the best of me and made me refocus on what's important. Two months ago, I was diagnosed with cancer for the second time. The good news is we caught it early. I've already had surgery and should be in the clear. During the last two months, my mind

It’s the biological study of glycans and proteins. Glycans are sugars that coat proteins. Current proteomics companies ignore glycans due to complexity and time requirement to analyze. AI can and has sped this up exponentially.

I agree and disagree. Most people don’t do statistics, but they are inundated by news and headlines about studies proclaiming one thing or another. Simply understanding causation vs correlation is very valuable.

This may exist, but an "Intro to Advanced Mathematics" which covered the basic principles of calculus, and stats might be useful instead of having to do 1 or the other.

PSA - take care of your fucking health. I’m sitting in the cancer surgeon’s office for followup after surgery. Had tongue cancer for the second time. I’m the youngest person here by 20 years, easy. This is not the place you to want to be. No one is happy to be here. Second
