The success of the AWS-3 auction shows what happens when market forces guide spectrum policy.  It delivered big wins - promoting U.S. leadership in wireless by putting fallow spectrum to higher use, strengthening our national security by funding secure communications networks,

Broadband providers are ready to build but often met with permitting challenges: 🔴 Exorbitant fees 🔴 Requirements unrelated to the build 🔴 Excessive reviewers Kudos to @FCC & @BrendanCarrFCC for proposing new rule to help telecom providers expand connectivity in America.

Real and outrageous permit issues that have delayed fiber internet builds with image of fiber internet worker operating a trench machine. USTelecom logo.
Graphic with icon of Ohio and text: Ohio. In one city, the permitting process includes 13 different departments with 70 people to review the application.
One telecom provider’s first permit application took six months to be approved. At that rate, the build would take 49 years.
Graphic with icon of Illinois and text: Illinois. Only one permit may be active at a time; each permit must be closed out before the next will be released. This rule puts a hard cap on productivity by killing parallel work and limiting scalability.
Graphic with icon of Hawaii and text: Hawaii. Proposed project drawings were returned because a civil engineer determined an Akina (equivalent of an apostrophe) was missing on the name of an existing street. This is an example of a strict administrative and technical review standards where tiny formatting issues can halt a project.
