To mark Easter, here is the Church of St Andrew in Ongar, Essex, thought to be the oldest standing wooden church in the world. ⛪ Tree-ring dating of the church's timbers suggests it was constructed around 1063.

A national blue plaque has been unveiled to the Reverend Wilbert Awdry, creator of 'Thomas the Tank Engine'. 🚂 The plaque at his former home, 30 Rodborough Avenue in Stroud, Gloucestershire, marks 80 years since 'The Three Railway Engines' was published.

Have you ever heard of a ‘crinkle-crankle’ wall? 🧱 This walled garden at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, dates from the late 18th or early 19th century. This curved design uses fewer bricks and was often used as a response to the Brick Tax, which was introduced in 1784.

Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese on Fleet Street had to be rebuilt after being damaged in the Great Fire of London in 1666. 🍺 A pub has existed on the site since the 1530s but was quickly rebuilt the year after the fire in 1667. Have you ever been to this iconic pub?

We've discovered a bathhouse at the Birdoswald Roman Fort at Hadrian's Wall. 🛁 After 4 seasons of excavation at Birdoswald, there have been significant discoveries. This video looks explores one dig site, where we have found incredible remains of the bathhouse furnace room.

Unusually, St Bartholomew's gatehouse in London looks older today than it did in a photograph from the early 1900s. Its Tudor frontage (right) was hidden (left) until a bomb from a German Zeppelin raid in 1917 uncovered its original timber. It was then fully restored in 1932.

The Horse and Jockey in Wednesbury is an ornate 19th-century pub with a splendid ceramic-fronted bar counter. ✨ The extravagant bar counter was most likely manufactured by Craven Dunnil of Jackfield and is one of only 12 known examples remaining in England.
