Some personal/professional news: I'm launching "When the Facts Change - economics and politics in a fast-changing world". Click on the link in my X biography to read my first post. I'll obviously continue to write my weekly "Economics Agenda" column for the Telegraph, and

I'm sad to report that my father has passed away. Martin Halligan lived most of his life in the UK - but it's safe to say that his heart was always in Ireland. Dad was born in 1938 - and spent his early childhood on a farm between Swinford and Charlestown, Co Mayo. His father

Dan - I consider you a friend and you and I go way back. But I’m concerned that you have casually dissed a media event I am involved with as “bonkers”. Did you listen to Lucy Connolly’s interview today with myself and @AllisonPearson ? Have you clocked that Lucy Connolly lost

An ASTONISHINGLY ill-judged post from @Keir_Starmer What the hell is the motivation behind this public love-in with a hard-nosed commercial investor? It's so needy and naive. I can only guess that his plunging poll ratings mean he is already working on his career plan for when

I'm determined to deliver growth, create wealth and put more money in people’s pockets. This can only be achieved by working in partnership with leading businesses, like @BlackRock, to capitalise on the UK’s position as a world leading hub for investment.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosts a Blackrock meeting along with Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves and Blackrock founder and chief executive officer Larry Fink in 10 Downing Street.

On the day that thousands of farmers protest in London, my most recent @Telegraph column on Labour’s plans to slap inheritance tax on family farms. This policy is ill-thought through and deeply counter-productive – with a strong whiff of class prejudice. The government needs to

Thanks for the kind words Barry. The reality is I’ve got to make a living - so can’t spend hours on Twitter/X. If I had a decent broadcasting job that gave me the time and space to do endless social media, it would be different. But @GBNews told me the channel “doesn’t need an

I'm immensely proud of my friend and #PlanetNormal Co-Pilot @AllisonPearson She has been through absolute hell over the last two weeks - as she rightly pushed back against the chilling insanity of two uniformed cops from Essex Police turning up at her door unannounced, in full

Today is my last day as Economics and Business Editor at @GBNEWS. I was among those who launched the channel in June 2021. There is a lot I COULD say about the last three years - and, in my view, the huge importance of and need for credible economics and business coverage

This should be the season to be cheerful. But no amount of festive spirit can hide the fact the UK economy is in trouble. I have no wish to be a grinch – Christmas is a time to be optimistic and to give thanks. But the reality is that the British economy has stalled, inflation

Britain’s economy shrank 0.1% in October, official figures show. This follows a 0.1% decline in September as well. UK firms and households are being heavily over-taxed and the state is borrowing far, far too much - funding lots of wasteful public spending. This is a recipe not

Where have you been for the last two years, Jeremy ? Why didn’t you critique or even report what you now call “the absolutely mad” - and often deeply harmful - restrictions at the time ?

Back in June, a fortnight before the government’s landslide election victory, I warned in my weekly "Economics Agenda" column in the @Telegraph that "ghosts of the 1970s haunt Labour’s economic resurrection”. Would-be Chancellor @RachelReevesMP claimed ahead of the election that

FFS!! The country is deeply shocked at the truly ghastly treatment meted out to sub postmasters across the country. If ever there was an episode that captured the disdain that the UK's political and corporate "establishment" has for the hard-working masses, this is it. The

At $86/barrel and €76/MWh respectively, wholesale oil/gas prices are now below where they were before Russia invaded Ukraine on 24.02.22 Yet, despite recent falls, diesel remains some 20% dearer. And we all know what has happened to household gas/electricity bills #OnTheMoney
