@MIAttyGen today secured a victory from the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, blocking President Trump’s unlawful Executive Order that attempted to interfere with states’ constitutional authority to administer elections. Read more at go.mi.gov/g1ksz2778
“Time and time again, this administration has unlawfully tried to use the weight of the federal government to bully local election clerks, suppress voters, and deter Americans from making their voices heard.

If the last few days have shown us anything, it’s that Donald Trump cannot and will not get away with it. Courts have made it resoundingly clear that the President does not have the authority to unilaterally upend the election process. Yet, this White House has shown us they will stop at nothing to manipulate the ballot box. I remain committed to fighting back against these illegal attempts to federalize elections, restrict mail-in voting, and infringe upon Michiganders’ fundamental rights,” said Attorney General Nessel.

DOJ Lawsuit Targeting Sensitive Voter Information Dismissed

USA v. Benson

Quote from Attorney General Dana Nessel:

"The federal government continues to show a blatant disregard for voter privacy, but the rule of law has once again prevailed. This invasive demand by the DOJ was a transparent attempt to intimidate and spread fear among voters, but my office will not be bullied by this administration and will always stand up against unlawful actions by the federal government.”
Trump’s March 25, 2025 Elections Executive Order Struck Down

California et al v. Trump et al

Quote from Attorney General Dana Nessel:

"I am relieved that the Court saw through the President’s illegal crusade to usurp state-run elections. Whether it’s through executive orders or DOJ pressure tactics, this White House continues to peddle debunked conspiracy theories in its quest to federalize the electoral process.

As the midterms get closer, we expect these desperate attacks will continue, but we are ready and committed to protecting the right to vote for Michiganders.”

“My office will continue to uphold the law and prosecute those who threaten prosecutors and members of the judiciary as long as we have a legal avenue to do so. Terrorist threats are too dangerous to tolerate, and we must ensure we have the tools available to protect our public servants and our communities,” said Attorney General Nessel.

@MIAttyGen Nessel, as part of a multistate coalition, filed an amicus brief urging the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida to carefully scrutinize the parties’ conduct and purported “settlement” agreement in Trump v. IRS. Read more at go.mi.gov/f45ee2745
“This so-called settlement is a blatant scheme cooked up by Donald Trump that shields his family from accountability and would enrich his friends and political allies at the expense of the American taxpayers he is meant to serve. Rather than defend against the lawsuit, the DOJ chose to defraud the Court by entering into a collusive agreement with the President. This case must be reopened to protect the rule of law,” said Attorney General Nessel. Read more at mi.gov/agnews
