If you are okay with having Muslim, Jewish and Hindu students sit through a Christian prayer in public school, and not okay with having Christian students sit through a Muslim, Jewish or Hindu prayer, then it’s NOT religious freedom- it’s religious oppression.

This pandemic has already revealed that: - schools are so much more than just schools. - many people now realize how tough it is to be a teacher and that teachers are grossly underpaid. - teachers are irreplaceable and essential to learning and education. #homeschooling

Please stop saying that we need to increase teacher salaries in order “recruit the best and brightest” as if the best and brightest are not currently teaching. We need to increase teacher salaries because those currently teaching deserve and earned it.

“Teachers knew what they were getting into!” Actually, I didn’t. I didn’t know that my teacher paid for the supplies I was using in class. I didn’t know that my teacher was working extra jobs to survive. And I didn’t see all of the unpaid hours of work they did at home.

This one definitely rubbed people the wrong way, but it’s still true.

Today a spider was hanging from the ceiling, and my students noticed it but continued to take notes and pay attention to my presentation. That is how amazing I am at classroom management. I’m kidding. It was absolute chaos. Students screamed, until I caught it.

Again, THIS is what “traumatizing” and “making kids uncomfortable” REALLY looks like.

When teachers make more money working their side hustles than they do teaching, it means that society sees teaching as a hobby and not a career, or that because teaching is 78% female and we don’t value the work of women, or… both.

Obama: I stopped smoking because I could never forgive myself if a young person, or anyone, thinks smoking is okay because the President does it. Trump: I will never wear a mask, not because it won't save lives, but because it will make ME look weak.

Dear @realDonaldTrump, I polled my male students and NONE OF THEM (0%) felt scared about being falsely accused of assault, because “we don’t assault girls.” However, the majority felt concerned that they’d be falsely accused of a crime because of their race. You’re welcome.

People calling teachers (who buy their own supplies, work hundreds of hours of unpaid overtime, and work extra jobs because they are so underpaid) selfish because they are worried about going back to school during a pandemic is peak irony in 2020.
