When Yousef fled Dar’a in 2012, he found safety in Zaatari Camp, where a learning opportunity sparked his passion for storytelling.
Now, back in Syria, he works as a correspondent, sharing stories of returnees rebuilding after years of displacement while rebuilding his own life.
From displacement to return, UNHCR continues to stand by the Syrian people.

“We feel relieved to be back in our country,” says Abdullah.
After years away, he and his family are heading home to Aleppo through a convoy organized by UNHCR & partners.
Since July 2025, 16 convoys have supported returns from Lebanon to Syria.
In Aleppo, Finland’s 🇫🇮delegation met displaced families, refugee returnees & community members rebuilding their lives after years of crisis. Through visits to community facilities & discussions with residents, they heard first-hand about needs, priorities & hopes for the future.
Most people who have been forced to flee want to return to home, but home is often out of reach.
