- “You’re Making It Worse” @naomicfisher When a child is struggling at school and become reluctant to attend, their parents are given advice. Most of it is about how to ignore their child’s distress. 1/
- It’s a common feature of the primary school classroom. The behaviour chart on the wall, with children’s names on pegs. Children are moved from the sun to the clouds, or from green to red if their behaviour isn’t what is required by their teacher. 1/
- All those bits we hold tucked up and heavy inside..🤍 Thank you for your words again @nktgill
- Here is a little something about my own attendance.. It was never pulled up, I was all was in top sets. I was chatty and sociable. But I had a lot of days off. I had a lot of illness, so I stayed home.1/
- Attendance sees a tick in the box but.. It doesn’t see the before or after school. It doesn’t see the distress. It doesn’t see the impact. It doesn’t see how hard everyone tried. It doesn’t ever say maybe this isn’t okay.
- Was sent this by a parent today. This is a school report for an autistic child who is meant to be supported for SEND.. So sad and shocked that this is deemed okay and sent to families..
- This week is not simple or easy for many families..
- To all those who won't be going. To those that tried. To those that can't. To those that wish they could.x
- Replying to @_MissingTheMarkWhat if there really is a problem with school for some children? What if it’s not a place where all children can thrive? What if our system is becoming ever more rigid and restrictive, with less account taken of child development and how children learn? 12/
- What is going on here? Are we seriously debating diagnosis, inclusion and disability rights in our education system? I knew it was grim but I actually feel a bit done in.
- My book Can’t Not Won’t is out next week. I have dedicated the book to all the families and children I have met and will continue to meet whose children try so very hard until they can’t do it anymore. Because it is all our story. The book is for all of you.
