🥁🥁🥁 New Euclid image coming  In 1995, astronomers turned @HUBBLE_space to a seemingly empty patch of sky. The now famous Hubble Deep Field turned back with 3000 galaxies. Now, astronomers have done the opposite.  1/2
The Hubble Deep Field shows a stepped, staircase-shaped frame filled with many galaxies of different shapes and colours, scattered across a deep black background. Credit: R. Williams (STScI), the Hubble Deep Field Team and NASA/ESA

This time, they've turned @ESA_Euclid to the most crowded patch of sky we have. Stay tuned tomorrow as we reveal this image at 12:00 CEST 🤩 2/2
A wide, horizontal image shows an oval, map-like view set against a black background. Across the centre of the oval runs a bright, narrow band filled with countless tiny points of light, denser and brighter than the areas above and below it. The band looks slightly mottled, with lighter and darker patches mixed together, similar to a thin stripe of dust or mist stretched across a surface. One zoom-in panel is overlaid on the main image. The panel has questions marks drawn inside it.

🆕 Webb has found clues to the ancient origins of 3I/ATLAS! As the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS began moving away from the Sun in December 2025 ☄️ astronomers took the opportunity to study its chemical makeup with the #NIRSpec instrument on Webb. This allowed them to understand
Comparison of three telescope images side by side. They are roughly spherical but pixelated, with more intense colour saturation in the centre. From left to right: smallest sphere is blue and labeled H2O, orange is larger and labeled CO2, and red is largest and labeled CO. A scale bar at the lower left is labeled 1300 km/1 arcsecond and is about one fourth of each of the three images. A compass at the lower right shows north pointing up to 12 o’clock, east pointing left to 9 o’clock, and a fainter arrow labeled to Sun pointing down to 8 o’clock.

There are more than 30 'dust devils' hiding in our latest photo from Mars Express Can you find them all? 🧐 Discover the answer and find out more about these tornado-like whirlwinds here 👉 esa.int/Science_Explor…
A dark tan-coloured patch of Mars, with an area of lower land running between the left and centre of the frame. Large islands dot the lower land, and steep cliffs appear to divide the lower and higher land. The right side of the landscape is smoother and slightly darker. A small scale bar at the bottom right indicates that north is to the left, and that a line approximately one tenth of the image width is 20 km long.

🆕 This relic from our galaxy’s formation has had its history revealed by Webb and @HUBBLE_space 🕵️‍♂️ 1/3
A dramatically crowded starfield that looks like a just-shaken snow globe. The black background of space, which is clearer at the edges, is covered by thousands of tiny white, orange, and blue points of light, which are stars. The stars are most concentrated in the centre, forming a roughly circular orb, and sparser at the edges of the image. Several larger orange stars, particularly those largest near the edges of the frame, have prominent diffraction spikes.

Join us for the 12 August #TotalSolarEclipse! We will host a live broadcast from the Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre in Teruel, Spain. Details 👉 esa.int/Science_Explor…
On a dark background, the Moon nearly covers the Sun, leaving only a bright crescent visible on the left-hand side. The Sun's surface looks active, with bright yellow glowing loops sticking out from it. The Sun emits a yellow-orange glow that extends around the dark Moon, and faintly lights up the Moon's left side. Craters are faintly visible on the Moon's surface. The top right has an ESA logo, and the bottom left has text reading “solar eclipse; coming to Europe”

#SolarEclipses are coming to Europe in 2026, 2027 and 2028. Curious how we predict them? Check this out 👉 esa.int/Science_Explor… Follow esa.int/solareclipse for updates on all three eclipses.
This infographic is titled 'Types of solar eclipse'. It shows three solar eclipses. Running from left to right: a total solar eclipse, which looks like a dark circle surrounded by a glowing, perfectly circular ring. An annular solar eclipse, which is also a dark circle surrounded by a ring, but the ring is more solid and thicker on one side. A partial solar eclipse, which is a yellow crescent-shape, almost like a biscuit with a large bite taken out of it.

🆕 This is the strongest evidence yet for ‘black hole stars’! Soon after Webb began its observations, it discovered a mysterious type of object in the early Universe known as little red dots (LRDs). What could they be? 🤔 1/3
A field of galaxies against the black background of space. In the centre is a bright-white elliptical galaxy that is the core of the Abell S1063 galaxy cluster. Around the core are short, curved red lines, which are distant background galaxies magnified and warped by gravitational lensing. A couple of foreground stars appear large and bright with Webb’s signature eight-point diffraction spike pattern. Toward the very bottom, slightly off center toward the right, is a small red dot that is highlighted by an orange square outline. A larger orange square in the top right corner shows the object in more detail. The object, labeled “GLIMPSE-17775” looks like a fuzzy red dot with a yellow core.
