At sea, ‘one prolonged blast’ on a ship’s whistle normally means you are approaching an obscured bend in a channel but on this occasion it was to apologise for photo-bombing Sophie & Chris’ wedding photos as we returned to @HMNBPortsmouth. Many congratulations from all of us!🍾👩‍❤️‍👨

Vigilance is key for all @RoyalNavy warships. Today, while conducting training at anchor, our Bridge Team heard a ‘PAN PAN’ call from a yacht in distress and one of our sea-boats was quickly on scene to help a fellow yacht tow her to safety 🇬🇧⚓️#SmallShipBigImpact #AlwaysVigilant

Yesterday, HMS Mersey sailed through the Pentland Firth, passing Scapa Flow — from where the Grand Fleet sailed 109 years ago today to fight at the Battle of Jutland. We remember the courage and sacrifice of those who served at sea before us. ⚓️

1/3 We received a reminder last night of the daily dangers faced by mariners. A MAYDAY call received in the early hours while at anchor, reporting a person lost overboard in the middle of a severe gale some 30 miles away, prompted the Ship’s Company to immediately make the Ship
