I'm a girl in crypto. I'm a girl in DeFi. I'm a girl that hangs out at MEV events. Here are my thoughts and experience 👇

Why are there so few women in crypto? I think there's little surprise here. There are fewer women in finance, tech and libertarian philosophy, and crypto is basically an intersection of all those. You can also add gaming, but a 3-circle venn diagram is pettier.

Do we need more women in crypto? 1/2 I think a generic "more women" or "more certain-type-of-person" approach is lazy. Crypto is actually in many ways super inclusive - it's pretty borderless (because it's very online) and very ageless (because it's open and also anon-friendly).

Speaks volumes that you saw the problems early and walked out. Takes guts and integrity.

More on bro culture. I have to add however a note on waifu memes, sexualised jokes, ass pics: I hate this.

Bro culture. I don't think all crypto = bro culture, but the space is dominated by men's vibes. When you attend events where you're 1 woman in 40 people, you basically have to learn the banter. Equally, I feel strange at female-only events, there's also some disbalance of energy.

So what could you do? For me, in a way, the best way to think about it is to not think about it. If you are a recruiter, don't send me an email titled "Female senior solidity developer" - it's cringe. If you're making hiring decisions, pick your best candidates - if you favour

Do we need more women in crypto? 2/2 I appreciate inclusivity because it brings diversity of opinion and perspective, and you need that to create something universally useful that enjoys true mass adoption. So yes, I do think having more women will help with that. But if we have

Are there barriers to entry for women? I think there are, but not all of them come from the crypto industry per se. I'd highlight 3 of them: awareness, bro culture and skill issue.
