Steam and Itch taking down games they host is a problem for game preservation - and of course, I'm not a fan of people trying to censor what creators can express.
This is one of the many reasons Ren'Py is free, and why its license means I can't censor what is made with it.

- I'm going to double the Ren'Py Runtime Fee.

- I'm happy to announce the release of Ren'Py 8.4.1. This release addresses multiple issues, including a problem that prevented creators on Windows from creating new games in non-English languages. Downloads of Ren'Py 8.4.1 can be found at: renpy.org/release/8.4.1
- Ren'Py 8.0, the first release of Ren'Py to use Python 3, has been released. This release makes over a decade of Python development available to the Ren'Py community. renpy.org/latest.html
- Ren'Py seems to have been downloaded 160,000 times in 2022. That turned into over 2,700 releases (according to vndb). Both numbers are probably low. My original 2004 estimate was that the total market for Ren'Py was about 50 people.
- Remember, every time someone loads the HTML5 version of Ren'Py in their browser, that counts as an install. ... that you can brag to your friends about.
- Since after a decade of trying, I can't think of a reason not to do it, Ren'Py 7.0 "For all mankind" has been released. renpy.org/release/7.0
