Y Pub&Hostel TOTTORI

「Y（ワイ） Pub&Hostel」は、パブ（公共の社交場）、ホステル（素泊まりの宿）の機能を持つスペースです。
現在の社会は、圧倒的なスピードで地球を丸ごと巻き込み、私たちの営みの時間をも奪っています。また、スピードに乗り遅れた個人は寂しさを植え付けられ、常に所属し、共同体であることを強制し、”空気”によって管理されています。
しかし、歴史をたどってみれば、孤独こそ、たくさんの知恵や技術が内包されており、独りだからこそイマジネーションが生まれるのではないでしょうか。
2012年から「たみ」を運営していく中で、私たちは、旅あるいは移動する行為が現在の社会から個人の時間や身体感覚を取り戻す機会になると実感しました。そのためには、今いる場所を一時的に離れ、つながりから意図的に遮断することが重要なのです。「Y」の最寄り駅である鳥取駅には、全国各地の特急列車が到着し、県内の公官庁街や鳥取砂丘などの観光地へ向かう観光客やビジネスマンが訪れます。また、駅周辺には古くからある商店街やスナック、居酒屋、温泉などが立ち並び、昔ながらの中心市街地らしい風景がまだまだ残っています。
世界中から訪れる人々が日常的な場所を一時的に離れてYに集うことで予期しない変化や「外」の世界に触れる歓び、スピーディな社会に惑わされない、一人ひとりの手で生きる術を分かち合えることでしょう。

‘Y Pub&Hostel’ is a place that comprises of functions of both a public space and a hostel.
At present, our society is vacuuming the earth itself in an overwhelming speed and stealing slices of our lives.
Being unable to escape from it, we plant loneliness to ourselves and crave for belongingness, are forced to join community and are controlled by ‘the air.’
However, the history has showed the solitude is a source of wisdom, art and imagination.
Since we started running ‘Tami’ in 2012, we have realised a travel – or, just making a move – can be an opportunities to take back an individual time and a body sense: to do so, it is important to make a distance from where we are and to shut down connection deliberately.
A numbers of people on express trains throughout Japan come and go.
Some people stop at the Tottori Station, Y’s nearest station, for sightseeing the sights like The Tottori Sand Dune, while others for doing business.
Around the station, old shopping streets, pubs and bars, and hot springs stand in rows, stay bustling, and remain of the scenery of the old period.
By staying at Y and distancing from the daily life, the people can share unexpected turns; pleasure of touching ‘the outside’; and, skills for surviving the society of the unprecedented speed by oneself.
