This graphic illustrates a major problem I have making videos:

The last street is still absolute garbage. There isn't even public transit.

The US (⅓ of my audience) is so far behind in city design that this is all they can reasonably hope for.

Meanwhile the rest of my audience is starting from the last street and trying to build something better.

It's like if I had a maths channel and wanted to talk about calculus, but ⅓ of my audience was still debating if multiplication actually works.

Them: I love Eminem. How about you?

Me: They’re okay. I don’t like the ones with peanuts in them.

Them: I’m not talking about the candies. I’m talking about the rapper.

Me: Why would I eat the wrapper?

Been a member for years, but I can't in good conscience contribute financially to a security tool that uses and endorses gen-"AI". It's grossly irresponsible.

Just my tools, sitting there, waiting.

Yesterday I got a pair of new headphones, Sony XM6es. Installed the App and for the first time in my life... I read the privacy policy.

I rejected it, and uninstalled the app.

Jesus fucking christ. It's a pair of headphones. They are collecting absolutely everything they can. Location, what I'm listening to, the text-to-speech, the ... anything and everything.

I've probably been naive (quite obviously) but I never thought a pair of headphones and an app to control them would collect this vast amount of data.

EDIT: I may have been to quick to assert that they collect data about other devices beyond my headphones.

Unfortunately I can't accept the terms. I tried to, via GrapheneOS, reject it's request for network access but apparently I have to be connected to the Internet in order to accept the terms. lol

Fuckers.

Remember, it's important to give your human exercise and enrichment activities so they will feel useful.

If I were a digital rights activist, I would see this time as a golden opportunity.

#Grok, the #AI "assistant" powered by Musk's xAI, has become an engine of non-consensual image and video generation at a mass scale - including pornographic and pedopornographic content. Creating and distributing this imagery has never been quicker or easier. All one has to do is reply to an image posted by someone on X with a mention of Grok and a prompt. This feature was restrained recently but people who pay an $8 subscription to X can still do it. How many politicians pushing for #ChatControl are still using X? How many official government accounts? In the Privacy Guides article by Em, the French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Irish governments (amongst many others) were in full support of Chat Control. As far as I can tell, prominent politicians, Prime Ministers and official government accounts from these countries are still posting on X.

Is there anything we can do to point out the hypocrisy? Or have the abuse machine that is Grok sanctioned and fined? And - this is key - use this horrible incident to push politicians to FINALLY quit X? It's about time.

I've got an odd request.

Does anyone have any idea how to get from Australia to the UK, without flying?

My in-laws are currently stuck on the east coast of Australia. One of them got very sick on a cruise. And long story short. They have been told they cannot fly ever again. It's too risky for what has happened, they're in the ICU - recovering, feeling better, but cannot fly ever again.

Hubs might have to go over there for a couple of months to help them out (his studio has a studio in the city they are in. This is the easy part).

They are looking at getting on another cruise ship, but the next one is in March, and if they miss that. They're stuck there even longer.

So, I am making a request to see if anyone knows if there is any other possible way to get them back to the UK without using planes.

The in-laws are in their late 70s, so there may be some limitations (they are obviously not going to be fit to help out on a catamaran or something).
