Data Analytics & Management
Empower your research through data.
We can help you design your study, set clear and achievable research objectives, manage your data, plan and perform analyses, and interpret your results.
Let’s turn your data into knowledge you can act on.

Areas of Focus
High-Quality Consultation
We provide expert advice and consultation for your research in biostatistics, bioinformatics, statistical learning, and AI. We also provide support for funding applications and publications to enhance their impact. It’s free to reach out and chat! For all trainees, we offer up to five hours of fully subsidized consultation.
Methodology Research and Collaboration
We explore innovative data science methodologies to better serve health research. Working alongside investigators, we apply advanced technologies like AI to address real-world health research challenges.
Data Management
We offer consultations on database design and develop research databases on commission. We build custom databases that enable easy and accurate data entry, yielding datasets that require minimal cleaning prior to analysis. We can also provide research database hosting using REDCap to all University of Manitoba faculty.
Capacity Development
We offer workshops and training in data science, analytics, and management covering statistical tools (e.g. R), programming (e.g. Python), REDCap and advanced statistical inference methods, among others. We also partner with national training platforms such as AI4PH and CANSTAT to support graduate-level data science training.
Enhancing Health Data Use
We partner with Health Data Research Network (HDRN) Canada on the SPOR Canadian Data Platform, and the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy (MCHP) to improve the use of health data in research and health system decision-making.
Recent
Projects
We understand that working with data can be challenging. We are here to support you at each stage of your research project, ensuring your data are accurate, accessible, and ready to reveal meaningful insights.
Have a project in mind?
Since 2022, we’ve provided ongoing statistical support for this study, testing a predictive lab test and a new drug’s safety and effectiveness. Our biostatistician even later joined as co-investigator.
We supported investigators in their successful CIHR Project Grant application in 2025. We continue to assist with data development, analysis, and publication.
We collaborated with researchers to compare machine learning (ML) models with GE software for detecting vertebral fractures in bone density images. ML algorithms were also applied to label CT images for future studies.
Partnering with HDRN Canada, we’ve initiated projects across Canada to improve health data quality and accessibility, including de-identifying free-text medical notes using AI, and mapping medical terms into a common data model: the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP).
We have developed a fully automated, end-to-end software solution for data linkage (DL). In doing so, we improved the quality, transparency and efficiency of DL services.
In addition to our regular R workshop series, we offer tailored training to meet specific needs, as well as advanced topics such as causal inference.

Project Spotlight
Finding confidence, community, and a career in epidemiology
The Centre for Healthcare Innovation is a welcoming community for trainees and international students. And for Yixiu Liu, a springboard into a rewarding career.
“CHI’s impact doesn’t end when you graduate… It stays with you in how you work, lead, and connect with others.”
Yixiu Liu
Former CHI trainee, now an epidemiologist with the Government of Manitoba
