Hackabyte 2025 Summer Hackathon Official Rules

Dates:

  • The Hackabyte 2025 Summer Hackathon will take place online on October 4th-5th, 2025.

  • The submission deadline is October 5th, 2025, at 11:59 PM (UTC).

  • Winners will be announced shortly after the submission deadline.

Eligibility:

  • This hackathon is open to students aged 13-18.

  • Participants can enter individually or as a team (teams may consist of up to 4 members).

  • Only students are eligible to participate.

  • Participants must have access to the internet and be able to submit their project on the Devpost platform.

Project and Submission Requirements:

  • Project Focus: Your project should address a social good cause, such as those outlined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This could include global challenges like health, education, equality, environmental sustainability, etc.

  • Types of Projects: The project can be a web app, mobile app, or any other tech product that addresses the chosen social good cause.

  • Building Within Timeframe: Projects should be built and completed within the official hackathon timeframe of October 4th-5th, 2025. Cross-submissions to other hackathons are allowed, but the project must be created and completed during this hackathon.

  • Functionality: Projects should be fully functional or have a clickable prototype that demonstrates key features and how it works.

  • Video Submission: A video (max 5 minutes) showcasing your project in action is required. The video should explain the core functionality and demonstrate how it addresses the social good cause.

  • GitHub Repository: You must provide a link to your GitHub repository containing the full code for your project. The repository must be public and accessible to the judges.

  • Devpost Entry: Submit your project on the Devpost platform, including the project title, description, video, GitHub link, and any other relevant details.

Prizes:

  • 1st Place: $150 Amazon Gift Card

  • 2nd Place: $100 Amazon Gift Card

  • 3rd Place: $50 Amazon Gift Card

  • Honorable Mentions: Additional company-sponsored prizes may be awarded to standout projects.

Judging Criteria and Winner Selection:

Winners will be chosen based on the following criteria:

  • Creativity: How innovative and unique the project is in addressing the chosen social good cause.

  • Implementation: The technical execution, functionality, and usability of the project.

  • Impact: The potential of the project to create a positive impact on society and solve real-world problems.

  • User Experience: How well the project is designed and how easy it is for users to interact with the product.

Note: All decisions made by the judges are final.

Important Notes:

  • Originality: Projects must be original work created for the hackathon. Using third-party code or libraries is allowed as long as the proper licenses are adhered to.

  • Respect for Others: Projects must adhere to our Code of Conduct and should not contain harmful, offensive, or discriminatory content.

  • Platform Requirements: Projects must run on any device or web platform. No specific operating system requirements are necessary.

  • Communication: All updates or changes to the rules will be posted on Devpost and communicated via email. If you have any questions, please ask in the Discussion forum.
