It's December Duel time!

Good morning and happy December 15th! It's duel time today and I can't wait to see what the Divas and Dazzlers have come up with this month!

The hostesses for this round are Michelle for the Dazzlers and Barb for the Divas. Michelle sent us a great kit filled with cute papers, glittery snowflakes, silver ribbon and thread/cording and the cutest image! I love this image from WhipperSnapper "Snow is Overrated!", he is just the cutest thing and makes me think that I would look just like him if I ever got up on skiis!

Here is my card:

Image

I managed to use everything in the kit except the silver cording, and I really like how it turned out! After I put all of the layers together, I ran the whole card front through the Bigshot with a plaid embossing folder to give it a bit more dimension.

Thanks for stopping by...and don't forget to check out the rest of the cards made by the talented Divas and Dazzlers.....links are in my right sidebar!

LJ and I are hostesses for January, we have our theme all picked out and ready to go! I just need to dig through my stash and put together the kits! See you at the next duel!

Unidentified Image Swap - Round 5

Hello everyone!

Today is December 10th and time to reveal my card for Round 5 of the Unidentified Image Swap over at SCS! This round's hostess was Jeanette and she sent us really cute images by Darcies from the stamp set "Peekin' Snowman".

Here is what I created:

Image

The image was fun to color, and I think that part turned out well. After looking at the pictures I feel as though something is missing from the card itself. Not sure what it is though!! It almost seems a bit "flat" if you know what I mean! Oh well, too late, these are heading to Illinois as I am typing this so they can not be changed!

This was a fun round...can't wait for the next!!! Thanks for stopping by!!

Calendar Girls November

Hi everyone!

I am late, but still on time as far as the day we are to post each month. So sorry for being tardy!

Jeanette provided us with this months challenge, here it is:

We choose a holiday in November (not Thanksgiving, but a little-known holiday) and create a card/project with that holiday in mind. Here's a link to Bizarre November Holidays: November Holidays 2012 (Official) Monthly, Weekly, Daily, Bizarre, Silly, Crazy, Unknown Holiday Observances

The holiday I chose to use, since it is near and dear to my heart is Lung Cancer Awareness Month.

My dad is a lung cancer survivor, they found it very early due to a normal scan he had to check on his NHL (and I don't mean hockey ;-) ). He underwent surgery to remove the entire lower lobe of his right lung in February of this year. Since then he has had to jump many hurdles but is a fighter. He has amazing strength and courage and he faces each day head-on. In my eyes, he is a hero.

Here is my card:

Image

Now, you wouldn't expect a man in his early 70's battling 2 types of cancer along with a few other ailments to remodel his bathroom, would you? That's exactly what he has been doing for the last couple of months. He is bound and determined to finish it on his own and is doing a great job. That bathroom has not been remodeled since the early 1970's.....so it was a bit outdated, and it's amazing that the walls were standing, considering what he found when he tore them down (see the next picture)! Yikes!

Image

Can't wait til the bathroom is done and all pretty again! I forgot to mention....while the floor tile was curing/drying, my dad put down a new wood floor in his bedroom (to pass the time? who knows!!!). That man is always doing something!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my card!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!

Before getting ready to head to my parent's house for Thanksgiving with the family I just wanted to post a picture of the card I made for my nephew Dan. He is not able to come home for the holiday due to having to work so I sent him a package containing his favorite candy, a couple t-shirts and this card!

I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday! Thank you for stopping by.

It's Duel time!

Good morning Darlings! Yes, today is the day for our monthly Duel! This months hostess were Debbie for the Dazzlers, and Carol for the Divas. The theme they chose for us this month is:

Planes, Trains and Automobiles!

Debbie could not decide which mode of transportation she wanted to use for the challenge, so she put together 2 awesome kits for us! She specifically mentioned that we did not have to make 2 cards, just to pick one kit and use it ☺ I chose to use the kit with the Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps image of "Emelia".

This kit included:

Images: "Emelia" - Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps
DP: "Hopscotch Boy Toy" - K & Company
CS: Really Rust - Stampin' Up!
Embellishments: Old Olive ribbon, Linen thread, vintage safety pin - all Stampin' Up!

I inked Emelia up with my Copics and put together this card:

Image

Isn't it fun?? I used a small skinny piece of acetate to connect the plane to the card to make it look like it is flying! I hope you can see that in the picture (the plane flying, not the acetate ☺). This card will fit in a 6x6 envelope.

Debbie also asked us to share a story or memory of a favorite holiday. Well, I have many stories, but since Thanksgiving is around the corner I'll run with that! When we were younger, my family would go to my grandparents house for Thanksgiving dinner. It was us, my grandparents (mom's parents) and my Aunt, Uncle and their 7 kids. I remember always having to sit at the "kiddie" table and not being allowed to have anything to drink until I was done eating.....anyway, after dinner we would all pile into cars and go to a local bowling alley and bowl a few games. It was a fun time and brings back lots of good memories! Now that everyone is getting older and have families of their own things have changed, but they are still good times when we all get together!

Thanks for stopping by! Don't forget to visit all of the Dazzlers and Divas to see what they have created! Links are in my right sidebar. Oh.....and a very special welcome to the newest Diva: Kadie!! I hope she enjoys being a part of this great group of ladies!

Calendar Girls October - It's all about the numbers!

Hello everyone! It's the 28th and time to reveal our Calendar Girls challenge of the month cards!

Miss October, aka Tami gave us the following challenge:

We are all about the month of October! I have three little challenges for the girls this month.

It is the tenth month of the year, so please have exactly ten ( 10 ) items on your card. No more, no less! The ten items do not include your card base. Your image stamped on a piece of card stock is counted as one item.

Our due date is the 28th. So, that is going to require two ( 2 ) circles needed on each card and a minimum of eight ( 8 ) different colors.

Are you scared yet?! LOL Start taking a peek….there are a lot of different elements and colors on our cards! I am so looking forward to what you all create, as I do each month.

I love my Calendar Girls!

Tami (Miss October)

So, in a nutshell, requirements are:

10 items, no more, no less (this includes all layers and embellishments, but not the base layer)
2 circles
8 different colors

Here is my card:

Image

I met the requirements with the following:

10 items = 7 paper layers, 1 ribbon, 2 brads
2 circles = 2 brads
8 different colors = brown, green, pink, yellow, red, blue, cream and black

I hope you like it and I hope I did Tami proud by following her rules ☺

Thanks for stopping by!

Trees for the Forest Ranger

Good morning!

It's duel day, the 15th of the month. The Divas and Dazzlers are at it again....but this month it's a bit different. Normally, the Dazzlers receive card kits from the hostess to create cards with a similar theme as the Divas. This month there was no Diva, so our very own Dazzler Melina came up with a theme all on her own for both teams. Instead of creating kits and mailing to 15 people she sent gave us the following challenge:

Hello Dazzlers!

My challenge to you for the month of October is to create a card with the theme of Trees and to include patterned paper somewhere on your creation.

I can't wait to see what you come up with! I hope this is okay with everyone that you are receiving a challenge instead of a "full on" kit. I hope to have a partner the next time my turn comes around.

The Divas are getting a challenge also with a different theme. It's a little mystery as to what each team will be making.

There was a twist to this challenge also......we are making these cards in honor of our leaders Jeanette and Kelly! We were also asked to give a shout out to these ladies.

Jeanette is the leader of the Dazzlers, and she is an inspiration to everyone. She is always happy, has a great attitude, is very encouraging and a great friend. I know that if I ever have a problem, or a question no matter how small, I can always go to her. She is always there for all of us! Thank you Jeanette!

Now.....here is my card.

Image

And in true Jeanette style, I even did the inside:

Image

Oh, and one more thing.....we are all going to mail our cards to Jeanette (Dazzlers) and Kelly (Divas). They don't know that part yet, but we all want to show them our appreciation! Thank you ladies, for all you do!

Thank you for stopping by!

Unidentified Image - Card Reveal!

Hi everyone!

Today is the day we reveal the cards we made for the Unidentified Image Swap on SCS.

I am the hostess for this round and picked an image from MFT - Miss You a Latte. The images were sent to everyone in the swap to create cards with the papers and embellishments of their choosing. It has been so much fun opening the packages as they have been delivered to see what great creations are inside!

This is one talented group of ladies, and that is putting it mildly! Everyone has their own style and tons of creativity! I love what everyone has created so far (I am still waiting for a few packages)!

Here is my card......and since this was my very first time hostessing, I decided to make one for each and every one of the ladies! I even remembered to make one for myself!

Thanks for stopping in and looking!

Calendar Girls - September

Hello everyone! It's the 28th and time to reveal my Calendar Girl challenge card of the month!

Miss September is my WPS, Paola and here is her challenge to all of us:

Hello Calendar Girls,

To honour a dear longtime friend of mine who passed away early today, I would like to request that you create a beautiful card using the following guidelines:

Your card must be a fancy fold, and have apples stamped on it -and colored-

(OR, if you don't own any apples's stamps, apples can be incorporated on your cards via designer papers, stickers, dies etc..), plus have at least one 3-D butterfly on your card too.

The main colors used for this challenge are to be your own favourite colors (use at least two of them please, and tell us which ones they are once you blog it.)

Why the apples/butterflies combos you may ask?

My friend used to bring me tons and tons of beautiful apples from her garden at about this time of the year as the fall season just starts to appear, and today, at the hospice, she was covered in a gorgeous handmade blanket full of beautiful colorful butterflies as we said our final goodbye....A bigger 3-D all white sequined butterfly was placed on top of her heart too...♥

Please note: Your cards are NOT to be sympathy cards at all, please keep them ‘happy/festive’ - as a celebration of LIFE in general! ♥

♥ Hug a friend today...life's way too short!

Here is my card:

Image

And a view of the shadow box fold from the bottom up:

Image

We were asked to use an image of an apple on our card.....but I couldn't find any in my stash so I die cut the tree, colored it with copics and then attached the hole punch apples to make an apple tree. I hope this counts as an apple image ☺

The second requirement was to add at least one 3-D butterfly. I cut mine from red glitter paper, attached it to the corner and added rhinestones for the body. I hope that it's 3-d enough for the challenge too ☺

The third requirement was to use a fancy fold. I used the Shadow Box Card tutorial on Splitcoaststampers for my card. It's the first time making one of these and I think it turned out pretty cool!

Lastly, we were to use at least 2 of our favorite colors. Mine are blue (background behind tree), and red (well, it's obvious where that is used)! I did not add a sentiment since we are all sending our cards to Paola for her to use as she wishes ☺

Thank you for stopping by! See you next month....Miss October (Tami) will be giving us the next challenge!

It's Dueling Time.....and a free for all!

Hi everyone! It's the 15th of the month and Dueling time!

This months challenge was suggested by our very own Dazzler, Debbie. It made me think of this song for some odd reason.

 Here is her challenge:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
::::: drum roll ::::: Our Septmeber challenge - dubbed Debbie's Delight, hee hee - will be a stepping stone to the next round of Duels by having a collection of ALLLLL the kits!
The dish: Know how we do our kits each month and we have LEFT OVERS? Each and every one of us probably didn't use every single thing in the kit, every single time!
The recipe: KEEP your extra items! That's right! From this month on, when you complete the Dueling Darlings cards, anything you DON'T use, keep it in a SAFE PLACE 6 months from now, after all the duels from all the divas and dazzlers have passed us by and September rolls around, that is what you will use! From the papers, to the ribbons, to the buttons to the all of left over, that will be your kit!
The Sit Down: The final result will be a collection of all things not used, recycling at it's best! When you get ready to sit down and play with your paper and beyond, it will be from all the kits - or some of the kits - that you've gotten and will reuse for the September challenge
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So, when I heard we were going to be doing this I saved all of my leftovers from previous kits, and I didn't misplace any of it ☺

I only ended up using all of the papers....that's it. Some kits had lots of extra papers and some kits had just a tiny bit extra, but I was able to put some of everyone's into this card! I didn't think the card needed anything else! I also made a total of 8 of these cards (it took a total of 6 hours to do).....all different of course......and I will be sending one to each of the Dazzlers ☺

Here it is....and if you Dazzlers look closely, there is part of each of you in this card:

Image

I used the PTI Cover Plate: Quatrefoil Die. I love, love, love these dies from PTI! The sentiment is Stampin' Up!

Thanks for stopping by! If you have a few minutes, please check out the rest of the cards created by the Dazzlers and the Divas.....blog links are in my right sidebar!

New Baby and Hexagons.....again!

Hi everyone! Recently a friend of mine had a baby.....a sweet baby girl. I finally got to spend an afternoon with them and I got to hold her and feed her and burp her....what fun ☺ I couldn't go empty handed, so I got baby Kayley the cutest stuffed monkey....it's a fuzzy soft pink with long arms and legs that velcro together. I made mom a card and give her a little something too.

Here is the card I made for Debbie. I am absolutely hooked on this hexagon die plate from PTI....can't get enough of it (sorry Tami ☺)!!

Image

Isn't that just the sweetest??? I love how it turned out. The tiny onesies were cut using a die from MFT.

Thanks for stopping by!

The Fab Five - Calendar Girls Challenge

Hello! It's the 28th already and time to share another Calendar Girls creation with you!

This months hostess is Debbie aka Miss August and here is her challenge:

**********************************************************************************

Calendar Girls Olympics!

Since the Summer Olympics are now going on, I decided the theme for this month would be our very own Calendar Girls Olympic challenge. There are two parts to this month’s theme:

1. The colors of the rings on the Olympic flag are: blue, yellow, black, green and red. Your card must have at least one embellishment and it must be in one of those colors.

2. Please make a card based on one of the Olympic events. The events in this summer’s Olympics are: Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling, Diving, Equestrian, Fencing, Soccer, Gymnastics, Handball, Judo, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Track and Field, Trampoline, Volleyball, Water Polo, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.

So, here are some examples…I have a stamp of a women jogging, making a card with this stamp, my card represents the Track and Field Event. That one is pretty obvious.

But in case you think you don’t have a stamp that you can use to make a card…look again, and this time, think outside of the box. That means…you may have a horse stamp, a card with that image represents the Equestrian event. You have Bikini Sophie, she could either be representing the Swimming event or perhaps she is waiting for her Beach Volleyball event to start. You have a sporting set so you use the basketball, your card is representing Basketball. You have sailboat image, your card is representing the Sailing event. You get the idea!!!

Or you have those cute Riley Travel Sticker stamps. So your card is going to represent the Olympic Opening Ceremony representing the USA, or Australia, etc. Or make a card representing the host country, Great Britain.

And lastly, when posting to your blog, please let us know what your card represents about the Olympics.

Please get creative with what you have. Use die cuts, stickers, stamps, whatever you have. I do not want anyone to have to go out and buy something.

Have fun!!!

Looking forward to seeing all your gold medal winning creations!

**********************************************************************************

We were able to see quite a bit of the Olympics this year and I always look forward to the gymnastics in the Summer Games. It's exciting to watch all of the amazing things these girls can do.

Image

This year, the "Fab Five", McKayla Maroney, Jordyn Wieber, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman and Kyla Ross took home the Team Gold Medal! Go USA!!!! Gabby Douglas also took home the Gold in the Individual All-Around, Aly Raisman took home Gold in Floor Exercise, McKayla Maroney took home Silver in Vault, and Aly Raisman took home Bronze in Beam! Way to go girls!!

So, in honor of these five young ladies, I put together the following card. I did not have any stamps that I could think of that would work for any sport so I hopped on the internet and found some clip art of a gymnast on Beam. I printed it out, then die cut it with my new Hexagon die from PTI and put it altogether. I used the colors of the Olympic rings at the top of the card, and also as my base layers. After I was done I realized that I did not have my "one embellishment" requirement....so I went to the warehouse (aka my basement) and found some brads (yellow and gold are kind of the same, so I think it works). I added 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze to symbolize the medals that these amazing ladies brought home!!

Image

Hope you like my creation!! Thank you for looking ☺

Happy Birthday Bonnie!

Hi everyone! Tuesday was my mother-in-law's birthday. We are celebrating tonight and I needed to make her a card.

I recently bought the hexagon die plate and matching stamp set from PTI seen here. I have to say I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this die and stamp set!! It was so much fun stamping and arranging the hexagons just like a quilt. I do admit that this card took me a good hour to make, but it was well worth the time! I am sure Bonnie will love it!

It's Dueling time...are you game?

Happy August 15th! Today is Dueling Day for the Divas and the Dazzlers. This months hostesses are Kelly for the Divas and Jeanette for the Dazzlers.

In honor of this week being National Scrabble week, our theme is "Are You Game?" Jeanette sent us a fun filled kit including the following items:

Image: Art Impressions - Bingo (UM3511)
DP: Tessa Collins Freestyle Collection
Embossed paper using Tim Holtz folders: Mini Bingo (SU Tempting Turquoise), Mini Rays (SU Pumpkin Pie), and Mini Ticket (SU Pixie Pink)
Embellishments: Moerz Corp Organdy ribbon, Prima flowers, Studio 18 rhinestones, star shaped brads

....and we each got a Scrabble tile with our initial on it!

As a little extra challenge this month were asked to do "something we have never done" before with our kit.

Here is my card:

Image

This kit was filled with lots of fun stuff to use, and the papers were all color coordinated. I chose to use only one of the papers, the bingo card and the buttons. The extra challenge part comes in with how I placed the layers on my card. Usually I have to have everything exact and straight on my cards....this time I set things on not one, but two different angles. I know it's not much, but it is something I never do!

Hope you like it, and thinks for looking!

Calendar Girls - It's Christmas in July!

Hi everyone! It's the 28th and time for a Calendar Girls challenge. Miss June (aka Carol) gave us the challenge this time around to celebrate Christmas in July!

Carol also asked us to share a Christmas memory. Growing up we always spent Christmas Eve at my Aunt Pat and Uncle Norm's house looking forward to a visit from Santa. It was exciting singing Christmas songs waiting for him to walk through the door! What fun it was to be a kid!!

Here is my card:

Image
I use all Stampin Up products on this one: Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla and Gum Ball Green cardstock, Be of Good Cheer DSP, and a sentiment from More Merry Messages.

I like how this one turned out ☺

Thank you for taking the time to look!

Calendar Girls - June

Hi everyone! It's Calendar Girls monthly challenge post time!

This time around Miss June (Carol) and Miss July (Michelle) have swapped spots. It's been a very busy month for Carol, so we all agreed to take some pressure off of her and let someone else be in charge for now ☺

Michelle came up with the following challenge for us this month:

For most of us, June is the month that starts summer...many events are happening...school ending, graduation, weddings, flowers blooming and family vacations.
My challenge is...using SC 388 (found in the SC thread), with any color combination create a card that best suits your beginning to summer, or summer plans. It could be a trip you are planning, a flower that is blooming, a wedding you are attending, or a graduation gathering. Whatever it could be...have fun creating a card to go with it.

Here is the sketch we were to follow(sorry the picture is so tiny):

Image

The way I am starting out summer is by organizing a baby shower for a dear friend, one that I have known for almost 20 years. She is having baby girl #2 in a couple short weeks (Yay for babies!). This week her entire family has gone on vacation, she and her family were to go with but the doctor said no. Being a bit down about that I thought she needed a bit of fun and a bit of a distraction.

I followed the sketch as best as I could flipping it 90° and used tons of layers! Here is my creation:

Image

My bottom layer was too big so I had to chop off one corner for it to look right. I think it turned out OK even though it's missing a bit.

Thanks for stopping by! I will see you next month when it's time for Miss June (Carol) to give us a challenge!

Calendar Girls - Happy Memorial Day!

This month, Miss May (aka Barb, aka barbaralynn on SCS) presented us with this challenge:

Memorial Day--a day of honor, remembrance, family picnics, parades, flags placed at cemeteries, concerts and the unofficial start to summer! So the challenge this month for the Calendar Girls is to ink up a patriotic stamp, get out the red/white/blue paper and DSP to post a card that shouts respect to your country and those who have served in the past. I would also like you to note in your post on the 28th what is in your plans this year or what typically has been part of your celebration in the past years on Memorial Day. Paola--my challenge to you is to also show us your Canadian Patriotism with a card that reflects the colors and images that you are proud of.

Here is my card in it's red, white and blue glory:

Image

Barb also asked us to share something that is part of our Memorial Day celebrations.....well, we don't do much to celebrate anymore, but when I was young a parade would march down my parents street early on memorial Day morning. I remember sitting on the front steps as a little girl watching the parade. As I got older I would race outside once I heard the marching bands drums start to beat, somtimes missing half the parade before I got outside! I'm not sure if the parade still happens, so I'll have to give my parents a call later to find out!

Thank for visiting! Happy Memorial Day to all!

It's a Mystery!

Another round of the Mystery Swap is done and here is my card:

Image

I made a tent topper card and die cut the image to make in more manageable for me. I just couldn't figure out how to use the entire image! Looking at every one's creations has made me see that using the whole image is possible! I loved being able to cut the image and use it in a different way....hopefully in a way that no one else has!

Thank you for looking!

Dueling Darlings - May 2012 Duel

Hi everyone......I am so late for the Duel this month. I have no excuse except that I am a procrastinator. It is my own fault that on post day my everyday computer contracted a virus while I was looking up a medical condition on Google....funny, huh?? NOT! Oh well.....my card is finally done and I am posting today, instead of yesterday.

This months hostess for the Dazzlers is Paola....or you can call her Sweet P , Ms P.or just "P"......I will always refer to her as my Wingpit Sistah! In the kits this month came so many things to play with and use, and I have soooo much left over to use on another card ☺ I would love to list everything she sent, but unfortunately the e-mail is on my infected computer.....so I will just show you my card:

Image

I am one of those people that can't do it right the first time.....in coloring an image that is! Seriously, we got 4 images in our kits and I screwed up 3 of them. The flowerpot on this card is actually cut from another one of the images and pieced onto this one!

I loved everything about this kit from the papers, to the images to the die cut butterflies! Thank you WPSistah!!

I can't wait for the next duel.....my new kit was delivered today and I didn't want to open it until I got this post done!!

Thanks for stopping by!! See you at the next duel......oh, and please check out all the creations from the Dazzlers and the Divas (links are in my right sidebar)!!

Calendar Girls - April 2012

Good morning everyone!

It's April 28th, and time to post our Calendar Girls creations. I am Miss April and I came up with the following challenge:

What is a Barn Quilt? A barn quilt is an 8 foot by 8 foot replica of a quilt block made of plywood and hung on the side of old barns here in Wisconsin. There are hundreds throughout the state and I love seeing them up close and personal. Here are some examples:

My challenge to you is to use one of the following quilt blocks to create this months card:

I hope everyone had a great time with this challenge, I know I did! I love to quilt, so this type of card is good practice for the real thing. Working with paper is totally different than working with fabric, but I really enjoy both.

Here is my card:

I picked out the papers in my craft room and then headed to the basement where there is fluorescent lighting and realized that the pinks really don't match. Then I thought about it and realized that when putting together a real quilt the fabrics rarely have the exact same colors. Anyway, I ran my squares through the Cuttlebug with a folder I have never used and I ended up putting them in the folder upside down, and not on purpose.....but the great thing is when I took them out and put them together the embossing actually looks like the stitching on a quilt. Yay for me!!

Thank you for stopping by...and don't forget to check out the rest of the Calendar Girls creations, the links can be found in the left sidebar of my blog.
