• Project Fit to Dance: Days 20-31 – a mixed bag but still going!

    So my foot is better…Hooray!!

But my energy has been really low and i managed to get a migraine in the middle of last week!

However, I have not stopped, I have just substituted yoga and mobility for jumping about on the days where I could barely move!

I do need to make a little bit more of a plan for this project, I really want to get back to strength training, I miss it but I am tired! I could also feel the cardio working so I need to get back to that too. However, all is not doom and glom around here because I really needed to dedicate more time to balance and mobility and I can feel it making a difference! Even the 5 min and 10 min ankle strength or balance routines make a difference if you do them regularly! So all in all that is a good result even on a low energy few days!

I am now going to cheat… not on the exercise but on the blogging, I am going to post all my photos and videos from the last few days so you can see what I have been up to!

    this was the migraine day!

So that was the last 10 days or so, I was so tired on some days and so busy, but moving, even small amounts of moving makes me feel better so I will keep going

  • Project Fit to Dance Days 16 – 19: On the mend

Hello! It is day 20 today but you know how it goes, I am perpetually behind when it comes to telling you all about what I have bene doing!

But i have to say my foot seems to be on the mend! I have been doing a lot of sensible things like yoga and ankle and foot mobility and strengthening, and the cardio I have been doing has been low impact so fingers crossed I can start again with a bit more oomph shortly!

    Day 16

was a Friday, I decided that it was time to test the foot out with some low impact cardio, I wanted to see how all the stretching had paid off!

The good news is my foot was fine 😀 I did some extra stretching and foot mobility anyway to make sure!

    Day 17, Saturday

I decided to give the low impact cardio another go… and this time i even added in a tiny but of gentle jumping! not a lot but a little bit and it seemed to hold up ok!

I also washed and diffused my hair so I looked like a blue lion!

    Day 18

was Sunday and I was tired, but I went out and i did some walking on my treadmill… I know its still unusual to me that I will voluntarily get on a treadmill but there it is! it is not Soooo bad though because it is a self powered treadmill so i don’t have to contend with the floor telling me what to so!!

Day 19, Monday which of course means dancing!!

I went dancing, my foot did not hurt and I could actually dance this week not just walk through things! it was, as usual, a lot of fun, and I think my new side is bonkers but brilliant! 😀

I was learning a new dance to, which was awesome and thankfully I was not the only one learning so it wasn’t just me making mistakes 😀 The dance was called Fair Janet, and as is often the case, I was too busy dancing and doing things to actually take any pictures, I promise to furnish you with some dancing pictures soon so you can see what we look like – just as soon as I have been to another dance out that is. for now here are some dancing selfies… well selfies of me at dancing anyway, the selfies are not dancing that would be tricky!

  • Project Fit to Dance days 13 to 15 – slow but not stopped!

My foot hurts! grump grump grumpity grump! Now I’ve got that out of the way I can tell you what I have been up to!

I am being slowed down a bit by the foot, there is no jumping at the moment, but I have not stopped! I have been focussed on trying to fix my foot, but also keeping moving

    Tuesday: day 13

My foot was still quite sore but I decided that it needed moving, increased blood flow helps healing after all! So I did some fairly slow treadmill walking and some foot and ankle strengthening!

    Wednesday: day 14

On Wednesdays my lovely friend Krissy comes over and we lift heavy things up and put them down again with levels of enthusiasm that vary according to a multitude of life factors! Quite often one of us will be enthusiastic enough to carry us both on, but this week due to factors including but not limited to plantar fasciitis we both hit a low motivation day together! However, this did not stop us (yay us!) we did part of the Stoltman Blueprint, upper body day, we did. It do everything but we did, bench press, chest flys and lay pull down as well as some resistance band work so all in all it was pretty good 🙂

    Yesterday (Thursday): day 15

I was tired yesterday I’d been in the office all day and it was a Thursday!

    Image

So I decided to carry on with my (so far successful) campaign to heal my foot and do some ankle mobility and calf stretching!

    Image

Molly helped and would like some kudos for being brilliant 🙂

See you all tomorrow for day 16 in which I may try some low impact cardio to test things out!

  • Project Fit to Dance: Days 11 & 12 Plantar fasciitis strikes again!

Hello, if you have been here a while you may remember that some time ago (maybe 2017) I was struck down by plantar fasciitis… back then it put me on crutches, thankfully this time it is not that bad and I can still move, I will just have to move slower for a few days!

I will start with yesterday, day 11, because chronology is important. 🙂

Yesterday I did yoga, I decided that Sunday is the day for stretching and oddly, at that point t in the day my shoulder was stiff but my foot wasn’t… so lunch break yoga it was.

I wasn’t actually on my lunch break l, but it is designed to counter sitting at desks and such so it seemed perfect!

Yoga is good too it is nice to move in a slightly more considered way occasionally and it does genuinely make me feel better 🙂

    So far so good…

However at roughly 11pm I stood up to go to bed and my heel hurt! It would seem that the dreaded plantar fasciitis had struck! The most annoying thing about it was there did not seem to baba cause, it was fine, the. It was not fine… oh well it is a minor setback but it won’t stop me!

Which brings us to day 12 – dancing day!

Well sort of dancing anyway! I walked dances a lot and then swapped out for someone else for the dancy bits! Which meant I still get to carry on learning and I get to join in but I won’t actually make my foot worse.

There was a point where I tried to dance, but was discouraged in a very friendly way because people didn’t actually want to make my foot worse!

And honestly they were right! it was a good compromise, I got to move and learn but not actually hurt myself!

That is the face with someone who is cross with their own foot!

So a teeny bit down because I don’t like it when my limbs rebel, but I am definitely not out!!

  • Project Fit to Dance: Day 10 – plyometric fu!

    Well sort of fun..

Definitely plyometric though… I did modify some but I am definitely getting better at the jumping!!

Soon I will try box jumps again!!

    Maybe!

Anyway, today I did original Insanity: Plyometric cardio circuit! I forgot how much I dislike the insanity warm up, but like the workouts!

And just for good measure I threw in a round of tabata at the end!

Her I am to tell you things!

I promise I’ll post properly soon, not just a quick update at midnight!

  • Project fit to dance: day 9 – one of those days!

Well , you know those days where you can’t really settle down to one thing or really decide on an, well today was one of those days!

Which is why when I got into the shed gym I didn’t really manage one full workout.. I did parts of 4 and some walking on the fancy treadmill which added up to a reasonable amount of intentional movement so that’s ok!

I also remembered to get up from my desk during today and spent about 40 mins (in 10 min blocks) wandering around my garden 🙂

    Image
    My house!

So low intensity but still movement!!

  • Project Fit to Dance: Day 8 – upper body workout fun!

Hooray! Day 8 I was back in the gym for the second day of the Stoltman blueprint! It was upper body stuff! Triceps and biceps and bench press and lay pull downs, it was fun… it turns out I like training upper body’s these days 😁😁

    Image

I did have to modify a couple of things because this is designed for a gym gym not a shed gym but that’s ok! The shed gym is honestly nearly a gym gym now but it’s better because it lives at my house!!

Anyway, here is my little random video update!

That was day 8… it was a brief update but I (of course) left it too late and am tired!

    See you all tomorrow!

  • Project Fit to Dance: Day 7 – Stronger every day!

Today was day 7, that is one week down, 51 to go!

    Today was a strength day!

I promised that this wouldn’t just be a long succession of jumping feets and Shaun T workouts !

    Today was deadlift day!

I signed up for a training programme written by the Worlds Strongest Brothers, yes, that’s right the Stoltmans! (Maybe Stoltmen…)

I did a programme of theirs way back in 2020 which worked pretty well, and as I currently have no coach or persona trainer, I though I could at least have a go at a slightly more organised programme than me just making it up as I go along!

So it’s called the Stoltman Blueprint and today was day 1, deadlifts!

There were conventional deadlifts, Romanian deadlifts and calf raises! There was supposed to be some leg press in there too but the shed gym has a lot of stuff, but not a leg press!

Anyway, this was the first proper strength training I have done since the comp in November so I kept it pretty light but it was a good way back in 😁 I also had my lovely friend Krissy come round to train with me which is excellent after a day in the office!!

    Image
This is an old picture… my hair is blue now! It’s not that old though we still basically look like that!

Anyway, day 7 is done and I am definitely going to be stronger every day!

    Image
  • Project Fit to Dance: Day 6 – balance is important!

To day was a really low energy day! I had to go and work in the office, and there were roadworks on the way in so I had to set off much earlier, all of which means I didn’t get as much sleep as would be ideal!

But that is ok! There are days like that sometimes!

So I decided to do some balance and mobility, which is still movement, still intentional and it is important! If I am going to be flinging myself about jumping up and down and dancing, I don’t want to do it on wobbly ankles or poorly balanced legs! So even if I wasn’t weary today this is an excellent thing to do!

    Image

I might have been in my pyjamas… but that doesn’t matter either…

I moved and I am now a tiny bit more balanced than I was, which is a good thing!!

  • Project Fit to Dance: Day 5

Well, yesterday was day 5 and it was a dancing day, after all one of the bat ways to get fit enough to do a thing, is to do the thing!!

Or to put that in a more logical way, a great way to get fit enough to dance is by dancing!

Just before I get to the dancing, I need to mention the walking, it wasn’t a lot but it was better than just sitting down all day at my desk! It is still horribly rainy and I haven’t figured out good lunchtime walk venues so this walk was brought to you by my new shed-gym treadmill! I know!! Me, a treadmill! If you’ve been here a while you’ll know how surprising that is!!

It is not as terrifying as some of them 🙂

I only did about 15 mins but all movement counts and I wanted to save my energy for the evening’s dance practice 😁

I am still reasonably new to the Tattered Court morris side, so I am still learning lots of the dances, I know two completely and a few others partly… but the point is, my practice was made up from dancing a couple of dances I already know and learning a new one… or at least attempting to cement one of the new ones into my head!

The ones I know are called Spaghetti Junction and DIY and the one I was learning yesterday is called Good Old Hay!

All in all it was brilliant! I really love my new Morris Side, it was such a lucky find 😁

So that was Day 5… just 360 to go 😁
