FAQs

I've never attended anything like this, what should I expect when I arrive?

Expect to have no idea what's going on. OpenBuild is a collaborative, time pressure event so feeling anxious is normal. Say you've showed up alone and want a team to work with. At the start, we will walk you through the schedule, rules and provisions for the day. After which, MonkeyBars will field questions and help people form teams and ideas.

By lunch time, you'll be on the rails and the rest of it is up to you. Are you open to learning new skills? Can you step up and lead or follow someone else's lead? Is your idea fulfilling, without it winning a prize? OpenBuild has been most enjoyed when someone was filling a gap, whether it was personally or for a greater cause.

What will be provided at the event?

Food throughout the event including beverages and snacks.

Mentors from the various companies involved with skills ranging from construction and design to music and coding.

Tools provided from sponsoring companies as well as basic prototyping materials.

Can I be a sponsor

You sure can. Email [email protected]

Is that a camera?!?!

Yes, that is a camera. MonkeyBars documents our events because we want to be able to tell a story about what happened. We may ask you questions throughout the event to learn more about your experiences. This helps us know if we're actually accomplishing what we set out to, show others what it's like to be a part of OpenBuild and show you what you experienced from a wholistic perspective.
