I've always wondered why I most of the time felt empty in acts of worship. I even used to miss a number of Salawaat, may Allah forgive me. I once went to my room to make up my Salawaat for some of the day. After 1 or 2, I stepped away even though I had one more to pray because it felt devestating. It was so hard to focus and feel it. I sat down on my bed, opened the clear Quran, and behold:

KEEP THE RIGHT INTENTIONS AND FEEL AT PEACE
We often pursue things subconsciously seeking praise and recognition from people. When we do not receive the response we expected after helping someone, or when our efforts are not acknowledged positively, we feel disappointed. Expectations from the creation even from our loved ones can often lead to disappointment. Also know that anything we do solely to please people may eventually lead to hurt and disappointment.
Allah reminds us to be wise and seek honor only from Him, Al-Azeez. Therefore, whatever we do, let it be solely for the pleasure of Allah, Ash-Shakoor, and in accordance with the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.
When our intentions are s
...Whoever seeks honour and power, then ˹let them know that˺ all honour and power belongs to Allah. To Him ˹alone˺ good words ascend, and righteous deeds are raised up by Him. As for those who plot evil, they will suffer a severe punishment. And the plotting of such ˹people˺ is doomed ˹to fail˺. (10)
Surah Al-Baqarah (2:136)
[Say, [O believers], "We have believed in Allāh and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants [al-Asbāṭ] and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."]
As the month of Dhul
...˹Remember˺ when Abraham was tested by his Lord with ˹certain˺ commandments, which he fulfilled. Allah said, “I will certainly make you into a role model for the people.” Abraham asked, “What about my offspring?” Allah replied, “My covenant is not extended to the wrongdoers.” (124) And ˹remember˺ when We made the Sacred House a centre and a sanctuary for the people ˹saying˺, “˹You may˺ take the standing-place of Abraham as a site of prayer.” And We entrusted Abraham and Ishmael to purify My House for those who circle it, who meditate in it, and who bow and prostrate themselves ˹in prayer˺. (125) And ˹remember˺ when Abraham said, “My Lord, make this city ˹of Mecca˺ secure and provide fruits to its people—those among them who believe in Allah and the Last Day.” He answered, “As for those who disbelieve, I will let them enjoy themselves for a little while, then I will condemn them to the torment of the Fire. What an evil destination!” (126) And ˹remember˺ when Abraham raised the foundation of the House with Ishmael, ˹both praying,˺ “Our Lord! Accept ˹this˺ from us. You are indeed the All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (127) Our Lord! Make us both ˹fully˺ submit to You and from our descendants a nation that will submit to You. Show us our rituals, and turn to us in grace. You are truly the Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful. (128) Our Lord! Raise from among them a messenger who will recite to them Your revelations, teach them the Book and wisdom, and purify them. Indeed, You ˹alone˺ are the Almighty, All-Wise.” (129) And who would reject the faith of Abraham except a fool! We certainly chose him in this life, and in the Hereafter he will surely be among the righteous. (130) When his Lord ordered him, “Submit ˹to My Will˺,” he responded, “I submit to the Lord of all worlds.” (131) This was the advice of Abraham—as well as Jacob—to his children, ˹saying˺, “Indeed, Allah has chosen for you this faith; so do not die except in ˹a state of full˺ submission.” (132) Or did you witness when death came to Jacob? He asked his children, “Who will you worship after my passing?” They replied, “We will ˹continue to˺ worship your God, the God of your forefathers—Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac—the One God. And to Him we ˹all˺ submit.” (133) That was a community that had already gone before. For them is what they earned and for you is what you have earned. And you will not be accountable for what they have done. (134) The Jews and Christians each say, “Follow our faith to be ˹rightly˺ guided.” Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “No! We follow the faith of Abraham, the upright—who was not a polytheist.” (135) Say, ˹O believers,˺ “We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us; and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and his descendants; and what was given to Moses, Jesus, and other prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them. And to Allah we all submit.” (136)

A beautiful reflection for Dhul Hijjah. The way you move from the declaration of 2:136 into the lived example of Ibrahim (a.s.), and then turn it back on the reader with such honest questions, is exactly what this kind of tadabbur should do. May Allah accept from you and make us all among those who truly submit. JazakAllahu khayran for sharing this.

The Weight of Gentle Speech Reading Al-Baqarah (2:83–84) through the Hadith
In the middle of a covenant about worship, prayer, and charity, the Qur’an says: ﴿وَقُولُوا لِلنَّاسِ حُسْنًا﴾ “And speak kindly to people.” - (2:83)
The verse appears among commands given to Bani Israil: to worship Allah alone, honor parents, care for relatives, orphans, and the needy, establish prayer, and give zakah. Classical tafsir relates these ayahs to that covenant.
Yet among these commands, the Qur’an turns to the human voice.
Worship and character appear here side by side. From prayer to the way another person feels after speaking with you.
Gentle speech can seem small beside prayer and covenant.

Saeeda Abbasi SubhanAllah, this was beautifully said. Some wounds left by words remain hidden for years, which is why the Qur’an and Sunnah place such weight on the tongue. May Allah make our speech a source of healing, truth, and mercy — never harm. Jazakillahu khayran for this thoughtful reminder 🤍

A Few Numbered Days Reading Al-Baqarah (2:80–82) through the Hadith
After assumption and inherited certainty, these ayahs turn toward another danger that feels deeply familiar:
﴿وَقَالُوا لَن تَمَسَّنَا النَّارُ إِلَّا أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَةً﴾ “And they said: ‘The Fire will never touch us except for a few numbered days.’” (2:80)
Classical tafsir relates these words to some from Bani Israil who believed that any punishment would only be temporary. Some narrations mention that they believed it would last only for the days their forefathers worshipped the calf.
Yet the ayah touches something deeply familiar within us: the desire to feel safe before facing oneself honestly.

When every argument failed and truth stood clear, they had nothing left but fire. They gathered the largest flame they could build, threw Ibrahim (AS) into it, and thought they had won. But the One who created fire simply commanded it: "Be cool and safe for Ibrahim," and it obeyed.
“Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs.” (حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ), the words Ibrahim said as he was thrown [Sahih al-Bukhari 4563], are the words of a heart that has no fear because it knows exactly who is in control.
May Allah make us people who trust Him so completely that no fire in our lives, no matter how large, can shake us. Ameen

The fact that Allah swt said to the fire to be safe because extreme coolness could also harm him. SubhanAllah

Friday Reflection — Surah al-Kahf (18:3)
The previous ayah ended with a promise left gently open: أَجْرًا حَسَنًا “a beautiful reward.”
And then, quietly, the next ayah lingers there a little longer— not describing the reward itself, but something about staying within it.
مَّاكِثِينَ فِيهِ أَبَدًا “Remaining therein forever.”- (18:3)
There is something deeply still about this ayah. Not movement. Not striving. Only the quietness of staying.
مَّاكِثِينَ is not merely existing somewhere. It carries the feeling of settling, abiding— without being pulled away.
And perhaps that is why the ayah feels so gentle after everything that came before it. After warning. After striving. Afte
...وَمَن يَعۡمَلۡ سُوٓءًا أَوۡ يَظۡلِمۡ نَفۡسَهُۥ ثُمَّ يَسۡتَغۡفِرِ ٱللَّهَ يَجِدِ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٗا رَّحِيمٗا “And whoever does wrong or wrongs himself, then seeks Allah’s forgiveness, will find Allah Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.” — Surah An-Nisa 4:110
The number of times Allah Ta'ala reassures the human being is truly remarkable. There are moments when we struggle to forgive ourselves. Time and again, we may disappoint Him, disobey Him, and fall into sins we never imagined we would commit. Yet, even then, hope remains alive.
Allah is always there — always loving, always caring, always merciful. His mercy is greater than our sins, and His compassion for us is deeper than the compassion we
...Shaytan made his promise to Allah directly: he would take his appointed share of humanity. Every soul he leads away is a soul that chose to listen to him over its own Creator. May Allah make us among those he never reaches. Ameen
What causes us stress? It may be a task before us, a responsibility we must fulfil, or a challenge we are trying to overcome.
What concerns you so deeply that it could cause your hair to turn grey? Perhaps it is the wellbeing of your parents, the future of your children, or your financial security and stability.
The Prophet (peace. be upon him) was in fact was asked this same question: "What caused your hair to turn grey?" His response was connected to the verse:
“So remain steadfast as you have been commanded, and those who have turned in repentance with you, and do not transgress. Indeed, He is Seeing of what you do.” (Hud 11:112)
