Damon contacted us initially to create a single Sgian Dubh as a gift, however this quickly developed into a matching set of three. The handles are made from an old Yew tree from Edinburgh with brass ferrules to compliment the colouring of the Yew. Sutherland Greenstone pommel stones, made for us by Nat at Scottish Gemstones. give a lovely contrast to both the yew and brass. We engraved the ferrules with 3 interlacing knots interspersed between the shortened Gaelic version of the Clan Creed “Garg Dhùisgte”. The blades use Japanese Takefu multi-layer steel with VG10 core, made for us by a long-standing family business in Sheffield.
Damon very kindly emailed us after he received the Sgian Dubhs:
“I’m genuinely blown away. The balance, the feel, the materials, the detail – it’s on another level. I’ve never come across craftsmanship like this. It feels like a natural extension of my body, and somehow like something I’ve owned for years the second I picked it up“
