app(SomeService::class) is resolved by the container, but it's still Service Locator, not DI. I went through four years of git history in a real Laravel project: 18 calls at the peak, zero now, and what actually removed them.

OpenAI strict mode accepted 8 translations out of 30 as a valid answer: it checks the shape, not that every input got a reply. The fix is one required key per input row, so a short answer fails validation.

Mail::alwaysTo() on staging only redirects the default mailer. Mail::mailer('billing') and notifications with their own mailer still email the real customer.
The fix is a global "to" in config/mail.php plus a test that walks every mailer.

hash_equals('', '') returns true, so a Basic Auth middleware with an empty credential in config accepts a request that sends no Authorization header at all. The wrong-password test stays green the whole time, which is why it survives review.
Wrote up why it happens, the three states of that config value, and the guard that fails closed.

Brought travian-elephant-finder, a Node tool that hunts the best oases to raid in Travian, back from three years dead in a weekend with an AI agent. It handled the boring rewrites (dead token scrape to a real login API, report cleanup), but the ideas that actually made it better were still mine. Short honest take on where AI helps and where it does not, with a demo video in the post.
