We had a bat hanging around by the door inside our garage the other day. I guess he didn't like it much there, he wasn't there long. At least this one found his way out on his own. Birds are always flying in the garage and they have a harder time getting out. The cats have fun with them.

Birds

Here's pictures of our newest house guests, of the feathered kind that is. My cousin Amanda was here for a few days this week visiting us from Florida. So I guess she is the newest guest since the birds have been here for a few days. A few weeks ago we saw the mother and father building a nest on top of this motion sensor light, which we never use. (That's another story.) At least someone is using it now. A couple of times they actually flew in our garage, and I thought that's where they had decided to build a nest. Fortunately they were building their nest outside the garage. Otherwise there would be no one left in this bird family, as I'm sure the cats would have caught them. And few days ago we heard the chirping of four hungry baby birds. So tiny and cute, in a goofy looking way.

ETA: I guess all of our baby birds have left the nest. One jumped out before it could fly, and wandered off into the woods. One jumped out but stayed close to the nest, only to be found by Nova. I haven't seen the other two in the last couple of days, so I guess they've left too.

All the pretty horses

I finally had the camera with me when I was over by my parents' house the other day. This field has been full of wildflowers for a few days, and I've been wanting to stop and take pictures. So many wildflowers! It makes me want to sneeze or something. I didn't get to stop long, and just took a few from the car. I had a tired Rebecca and a cranky Justin with me, but maybe another time.

We've been going through a lot of bird seed the last week or so. I just thought we had really hungry birds. Well Saturday we found out the real reason. Apparently baby raccoons like bird seed. Sometimes his mother comes with him. Tonight I forgot to bring in the bird feeder until the cat was sitting by the window. I knew the raccoon would be on the deck. At least until we figure out something else for our feeder, I bring it inside every night.

Our birds and insulation

As you might have guessed, I got my computer up again since we got our carpet this week. The carpet looks really good, and now I'm afraid to walk on it. I would hate to get it dirty! The next thing we need to get done is to finish the plumbing. But our other shower fixture has finally come in! So we're moving in the right direction.

Here's our two little birds a couple of weeks ago. They had five eggs in their nest, but unfortunately some animal must have gotten to them. Last week, when I looked out the window one morning, the birds and eggs were gone, and the nest was on the ground. :(

Image
And this picture is from a couple of weeks ago when Steve and I blew the insulation in the attic. It's not the itchy kind, this is green insulation. It's made from recycled paper. It was a mess, and really dusty! There's still insulation on our deck and in the yard. But Steve, Dave, and Joshua finished putting insulation on the west side of the house on Monday.

Bird's Nest

Image
This is the little bird that built a nest on our front porch. This was on top of our temporary post, and the temporary ones came down Saturday. So Steve nailed up a block up there and the birds rebuilt their nest.

Tomorrow is moving day for us! We've moved most of the boxes and small stuff. What's left to move this weekend is mostly furniture and a few other things.

Happy Friday!

Racing Toads

Toad Suck Daze is this weekend in central Arkansas. The credit union I work at has been a sponsor for the toad bucks for the last couple of years, so we're a toad drop off. Kids can bring in their toads and trade them in for toad bucks, which they can use at Toad Suck for food and games. The toads will be used in the races for kids that don't bring their own toad. Last year the credit union really went all out and we had toad cookies and toad punch. I thought it was so much fun watching the kiddies bring in their toad boxes with their little amphibious friends. They were so cute. There was one little girl who was one with the most toads. She was about 4, and brought in 18 toads & one frog! This year we got 36 toads. I'll be at Toad Suck Saturday night at the credit union booth, so I'll be sharing more pictures later.

Symmetry

Image
My sister, Joy, took this gorgeous picture, and I wanted to share it. I think the symmetrical pattern of the wings is really cool. I'm a person of patterns, organization, etc., so I notice these things. What an amazing Creator we have!

There's a few calfs in the field across from our house. When we were pulling out of Jimmy's driveway Sunday night, they came running. They're so cute.

Field mouse

A couple of weeks ago Steve found this little guy out on our land while we were burning. Apparently his family made a home in our brush pile!

ImageHere's a couple of the possums that come up on Grandma Moore's porch and eat the cat food. One of these a black one. I had never seen a black possum before. There's a couple of little baby ones that come up sometimes too. They're kind of cute. Egghead doesn't seem to mind them.
